Dalian, China: Chinese Families Visit Tiger Park. Models Of Tigers Attract Photographers. Harbour Wall Provides Good Views Of Sea Activities

February, 1999
The Dalian Tiger Park appeared to be a very popular place for a Sunday visit, so by the time the taxi had dropped us off at the roadside, and we had walkedDalian tiger model on rocks. up a track to the top of rocks, there were already many Chinese people there enjoying the sunshine and scenery. Amongst the rocks on the headland were two models of tigers. One tiger in white stone held the arm of what appeared to be a mermaid in its mouth, and although the statue was surrounded by a low protective fence, this was completely ignored by the people who wanted to have their photograph taken while standing on the plinth. Another model, in life like colors, was also very popular, particularly with the children. There must have been a legend attached to the tiger with the mermaid, but I do not know the story. If you have any information on this then I will be glad to hear from you.

On top of rocky headland.I am sure that the Chinese characters inscribed on one of the rocks on the headland must have been significant, and perhaps even told the legend, for people patiently waited their turn to be photographed sitting there. From this point on the headland, there were good views of the town to the right, protected by a harbour wall below us, and moored in the protected part of the bay, was a Chinese Warship.

The harbour wall was a good vantage point to watch the departure of motorboat taxis taking passengers to the opposite headland; a journey of two orHarbour wall Tiger Beach. three minutes, but to have walked around the bay would have taken considerably longer. In the second photograph there appears to be part of the Sydney Opera House, but it is in fact the departure point for an alternative way to cross the bay, by cable car, although this was not operating at the time of our visit.
