Travels In China Between 1987 And 1999 Visiting Cities, Towns Country Villages. Spring Festival In Dalian, Tiger Bay. Chinese Children In Changsha

Travels in China must be of some interest to you, for you to have come here, so I hope that there will be something in the Web Pages to further your interest in what I consider to be a very fascinating country.
Travels in China can satisfy all tastes, whether you must have the luxury of a 5 star hotel, or can enjoy the thrill of visiting remoter towns and villages, and meeting the friendly locals. Much has changed over the past twelve years, and the photos will let you sample life at all levels. The photograph of the Tiger Model was taken during a visit to Tiger Bay in Dalian during the Chinese New Year of 1999.
In 1995 I was in Changsha, and at the Memorial Park, these children were having some fun racing, after a lesson about The Heroes Of The Revolution.
It was in 1987 that I made my first visit to China, as part of a group of 30 people, not knowing what to expect nor what we might see. As our plane from Hong Kong was preparing to land at Guilin, there was a wonderful view through the plane window, of the river, mountains and paddy fields below; the water in the paddy fields sparkling in the sun, and I can remember that view, as if it was yesterday. Getting off the plane and walking to the Passport Control, was like walking into a sauna, very hot and humid, but there was an air-conditioned bus waiting to take us to our hotel, so our discomfort was soon over.
During the 1987 tour I had a good introduction to what life was like at that time, but inevitably we were only taken to places which were "open" and "on show", like the farmhouse where we were bombarded with statistics about rice harvests, but in later years I enjoyed being able to travel freely to places, off the tourist track.
I hope you will enjoy your visit to these pages. The links below will guide you to the places which have been the source of much happiness for me during the past years.
