2000 Trail Days

PALOS : 9:00 AM Bullfrog Lake Parking Lot  Directions

On the morning of Sunday April 16, 25 Chicago Area Mountain Bikers (CAMBr) started opening the trail corridor for the proposed Archer Road rail. The total length of the trail will eventually exceed 2 miles of mostly rolling, twisting trail that will wind roughly parallel to Archer Road from Red Gate Woods heading toward the Southwest. The work involved cutting Buckthorn and Honeysuckle trees (all non-native species) to open a corridor that will be wide enough for a small emergency (John Deere) vehicle to get through.  All work is being conducted under supervision of the FPD Grounds and Trails Dept.

April 16, Sunday

The FPD has stipulated that any riding of this area before the trail is officially opened will result in a shut down of the project. Likewise, no trail work can be permitted without the direct supervision of Grounds and Trails.  (April 20, 2000)

May 20. Saturday - Meet at Red Gate Woods on Archer Avenue 9:00 AM
The 23 mountain bikers who built trail last Sat were amazing. About 1/4 mile of trail was cut and compacted. WE handled two creek crossings and sculpted the beginning of what will be a great trail. It was sweaty, dirty work and there's lots more to do. With enough help we can finish this off by the end of the summer but we need you to make it happen. The ball is in your court now. You decide how fast we complete this trail and get started on the next one.

Our next work day is Saturday June 3, which is National Trails Day. We'll meet at Redgate Woods at 9AM and work till 1PM. After that we'll ride. Hope you can give us a hand
