Question: "What's a counter?"
Answer: See, website counters track and record "hits" or "visits". The counter this site has is a visit counter. Each time some lucky person enters the main page, the counter records a "visit". Only the main page, that's it. Also, this can only be done once every 2 hours by any one person (so, if they go in and out of the main page 40 times, it won't record that). Hit counters are a different story. That kind of counter records a "hit" everytime any page on the site which it is connected to is viewed or reloaded. So the number will obviously be much much bigger because of the way it works, but I don't think they're very useful. A site could recieve 50 hits, but how will you know how many people contributed to that number? You might think that 25 people just experienced your site, but it's more likely that there were only 2 or 3 visitors. Anyhow, I think the visit counter gives a better idea of how many people have viewed the site, so that's why I use it.
Class dissmissed!
