1-3-1 Power Play

This pattern is used against the BOX defense so that passing lanes are opened up for us. Note that one of the defensemen becomes a forward.

The "attack triangles" are indicated.

The point of vulnerability here is the "quarterback" point man. He is NOT to fool around with the puck to the point of risking a breakaway. If he is in trouble, he is to pass it off, or dump it into be safe.

As with any powerplay, the idea is to keep CONTROL of the puck and patiently wait for an open shot: keep the puck moving.
