on 4 Power Play Drill
|
PART I above Players line up as shown. The purpose of this drill is to teach the power play line how to move the puck around in the attacking zone. Coach initiates by passing the puck out to the point. Then the wing on the far side moves in to deflect the puck. Once the far winger moves in, the centerman behind the net moves to take up place where the far winger left. This is done in case the far winger misses the deflection, the centerman will be on top of it to recover the puck quickly. However, if the shot is not deflected the far winger continues to skate around behind the net to set up and replace the center. Coach will also pass to the other defenseman and center as well. Each line execute drill three times. |
PART II above The next part of the drill is to pass the puck behind the net. If the centerman passes to the far winger, the near sided defenseman goes in for the deflection. Once the defenseman goes in, the near winger falls back into the point slot. Lastly, everyone note that it is safer to pass to a man CLOSER to you: i.e. pass around the defenders. Power Play units should avoid passing through the defenders! |
