Europe TripLyon was again just a brief pause before I headed off to the final destination on my trip, Paris. It was a pleasant one-night stay though. Much more cheery than Geneva (maybe because the weather was better), Lyon did not have anything of enormous value to offer the sightseer: some Roman ruins, nineteenth century town houses... the usual stuff really. Did have a great view of Lyon and the outlying countryside from the hostel window though! Like I said, not a great deal to see, but it was nice to have a look around somewhere else in France other than Paris... The most spectacular must-see place in Lyon is the Basilique Notre-Dame, a relatively new cathderal (about 100 years old, I think) that looks good on the outside, but absolutely stunning on the inside. The photo above does it no justice whatsoever. It's all greens and golds and ornate marble pillars and mosaics... eye-popping. |
