Welcome to The Bunker

Holiday 2003

The second part of our holiday was to be the Highlands - to get a taste of the real Scotland, outside of the cities. So we picked a tiny place in the middle of nowhere called Insh, and from there explored the Cairngorms and the surrounding lands. It was fantastically beautiful there.

Walking around Loch Morlich

Around every corner there was a photo opportunity. Whatsmore, the weather was excellent all week, bar a brief shower or two. The sunshine we got just enhanced the natural beauty of the area.

Walking around Loch Morlich

There are many walks to be done in the area, and we only did one or two. But if you imagine the most stereotypical, romanticised images of a Scotland with mountains, trees, lakes of clear water, clean air... it's just like that.

Walking around Loch An Eilein

We stayed in Insh for three nights at a B&B on a working croft, before moving onto the Galshiels, staying there for one night to break up the journey home a bit. Nearby Melrose was the primary reason for visiting, a picturesque village with the interesting ruins of Melrose Abbey as the main tourist attraction.

A distant shower from the top of the Cairngorms

But it's the images from the Highlands that I will remember foremost. Breath-taking in every sense of the word. I shall certainly be going back some day!
