Reunion Special: Stu's Stag Party!

When? 22-23 February 2003

Where? Swanage, Dorset, England

A special reunion took place in 2003 in honour of Stuart's decison to get hitched! Swanage was to be our host for this event, as Stu's friend Paul worked at the youth hostel there, and got us a good deal on accomodation. Stu drove up with ; Andrew drove himself and I; and Iain headed south from Bath. We all planned on meeting up at the hostel at 3pm; some of us were a little bit later than that, unfortunately...

Two hours in, and Gavin and Andrew finally find their way out of the garage.

By 5pm, we had all met up at The Swan pub just down the (very steep) road from the hostel, and we caught a bus from the town centre to Bournemouth, where the festivities were to take place.

Inside the hostel

After the exciting chain ferry crossing, we eventually got into the city centre and started searching for a place to eat. We happened upon a rally finishing point along the way, rather oddly. We eventually wound up in a Chinese place, called the Yellow River (no smutty toilet jokes please). The food was very nice, and the restaurant itself was pretty good - great service.

After that we headed over to the J.D. Whetherspoon pub and had a couple of pints in there, with just about every other bugger in Bournemouth. Then we went across to another pub, the name of which escapes me, but it was the one that was much less crowded and had MTV playing on a large screen. By this time it was well after ten, so it was decided a club should be next. Firstly we tried K1, which was recommended to us, but turned out to be possibly the pantsest club in the world... ever. Too small, crowded and dull. So after that we went off to FYEO, which was a fair bit better. Stuart appeared to be happier there anyway. We finally left, utterly broke, and managed to get scrape some pennies together for taxis home, eventually passing out about 3am.

Stuart, Andrew, Iain and Gavin, who died today.

Sunday began with a full English at about 8.30pm, far too early for my liking. I think most of us were a bit worse for wear... We then had a walk along the beach of Swanage, skimming stones and trying to hit bottles with rocks. All I can say is: our aim is somewhat lacking. Lunch was provided by an excellent fish and chips takeaway, followed by a stroll to the top of the cliff, affording an excellent view of the entire bay.

Yes, stunning views... oh, you meant the topless bathers on the beach? Damn!

And after that, we headed back to our cars, said our farewells and left for home. All in all, a good weekend's work!
