Specific Faults of the LDS Faith
Hi. Since there is a lifetime of information that could go on this page, it's
very hard to know where to begin, and even harder to know where to finish. I am going
to jot down notes here of various reasons why I don't have any faith in Mormonism. Please
note that many of them are unexplained. This is because the explanations will be
lengthy. I hope that in due time I can get through most of the explanations, and possibly order
them with respect to importance.
And Now the reasons:
- Faith. Why have it in only one religion, especially when you allow that one religion
to teach you why all the other ones are wrong. Faith eventually needs to be tested. Blind
faith will leave one mindless.
- Mormons are always preoccupied with their religion, even at parties, camping trips, sports,
and many other events. I think this derives from the fact that they are told to pray always.
My problem with this is that if the Church isn't true, they are setting themselves up to
be tortured by it every minute of the year for many years to come. This will probably result in
them not being able to escape it mentally. I have seen this in many people, including myself,
who found out that the Church was not true but couldn't find a new foundation for their life
because of an obsession with it. This often causes suicide. Mormonism and Utah are the most
common religion/state in which suicide occurs! I've seen it in a newspaper article.
- Baptisms for the dead are not performed for Jews and celebrities.
- The Mormon Church, which claims to be governed by Jesus Christ, is severely out of touch
with it's youth. It seems the religion only applies to older people, and many youth have
serious social problems that lead to self-destructive behavior in their adult years. These
problems will often be caused by the Church and the Church usually does not have a solution
that confronts the problems except for hiding from them.
- A wife has to be subservient to a righteous man to reach the highest degree of the
Celestial Kingdom.
- The Whole Kingdom System tries to make you feel like you can become a God and tries to
make you feel superhuman, especially in your subconscious. This is unhealthy as we are all
human beings and I don't feel that we really can do much to become like Gods in this life,
and hence we shouldn't try.
- I can't stand all of the governmental overtones, like Heavenly Father, servant, counselor,
fellowship,... The Mormon Church, if compared to a large corporation or a right-wing political
system, is almost a perfect match. The problem with this is that it shows the high-likelihood
that humans are running things in this "Church." if they are, or there's a chance, than why should I be
having so much blind faith?
- Hymns. They put you to sleep, just like Sunday or any other day with preaching. "Sleep is
death's image" -- That explains it.
- Neal A. Maxwell said that we must submit our mind in order to gain salvation during a 1999
devotional at BYU. I took notes, he cleverly tricked 30,000 people into fear of thinking the
religion out.
- Any time you find an imperfection in the Church, since God is so far above you it must
be your imperfection. Yet, when given a commandment, you can definitely understand that it
comes from God and must do it. Makes no sense. Note to self: Look up gnosticism
- All the body language that's taught to Church members. Others have told me that they feel
this is insignificant or trivial, but I wish to elaborate on this further at a later time.
- Spencer W. Kimball said that masturbation is a homosexual act leading to homosexuality.
The problem is that almost everyone masturbates and most people aren't gay. Some people can
control it, and so they harm nobody in the act. Male masturbation is heterosexual in nature
because men typically form holes that simulate women genitalia, and vice versa. So how is it
homosexual? And isn't it harder to attract the opposite sex when you can't dream about them
(sexual fantasies are a sin too). For some people it really *is* all in fun. Most importantly,
as we move closer to the next century, people have to realize that everyone is slightly homosexual
anyway. That's the major problem with this statement.
note: stats about missionary's from Bott (former mission pres.) 99% men 85% women missionaries
guilty of masturbation. The guilt isn't worth the cost of the lack of discipline!!!!!
- Truth based on emotion. See article linked to in the Holy Ghost.
- If The Holy Ghost is not present the reason must be that you withdrew from him or he is
testing you. Hence there is no possibility for the Holy Ghost or God to be blamed.
- Alma 32 works against the Church for those intelligent enough to separate themselves from it
enough. Enough is enough.
- Not drinking Alcohol vs. Jesus words about what comes out.
-
- Temples rich, expensive, glamorous vs. ancient temples of simplicity.
- Primary brainwashes children! It instills a false conscience.
- Joseph Smith said that God doesn't dwell in men's hearts vs. Alma's words.
- Older members still don't know if it is true. There is no limit to how much you need to try
to get a testimony. Anytime you don't get a testimony, there is always a way set up to teach
you that you need to spend more time, and more money! I know 40 year olds who grew up in it that
still don't know- what's the point!?
- Caffeine explicitly condemned at the same time that scientific evidence was presented that
it led to higher intelligence.
- Pornography <-- The Members of the Church seem to forget that the actors are real people
with real feelings, and tend to damage the people in the industry by encouraging those actor's
feelings of worthlessness and regret. However those actors usually never did anything to harm
them and were possibly led into the industry by the scorn of the religious world for being themselves.
- Hypnosis in temple, Missionary Training Center.
- 1800s kept Mormons busy not thinking about the religion by building cities and encouraging marriage
at very young ages. I am not too fond of Deseret.
- Anyone who wants to escape from the turmoil of typical life can find an easy escape by
this brainwash.
- Energetic music is bad!? Also, volume is a factor. Huh? It's the same music.
- Law of Consecration=communism
Temporal laws=fascism
Outer Darkness similaar to existentialism.
Joseph Smith/ Brigham Young's teachings strangely resemble Leibniz and other intelligent philosophers,
and so much of their doctrine was and still is c
