Christmas Basket Program

Our American Legion, the Moose Lodge, and the Boy Scouts will sponsor the Program this year. Donations of non-perishables may be brought to the Post or given to the Boy Scouts who will be collecting at Albertson's on Dec 9th. When you shop at Albertson's put an extra can or two or three in your basket and donate to the Boy Scouts as you leave or bring by the Post.

Food Coupons For Overseas Military Members

One of the easiest ways we can participate in helping our overseas military members and their families is to send "cents off coupons". Manufactures will extend coupons 6 months beyond the expiration date for military members overseas. so, when you see cents off coupons at stores or in the newspaper, bring them to the Post and Mary Cole will cut, sort, and forward to special locations overseas that will distribute them to needy families. Local coupons or mail-in rebates are not accepted in this program. Thanks for helping in this worthy project.

ADJUDANT'S WORDS

As you have heard via the grapevine or rumor mill, the Post lounge will close its doors on the last night of the year. We will be having raffles of all sorts of things that night as we have a Goodbye Party, Potluck Dinner Fundraiser for the Auxiliary and dance to the jukebox.

The hours of operation for December will be 12 noon to 8pm Daily. There will be only two (2) bartenders-- Stormy and Gaby. The bar might stay open after 8pm based on the business and if the bartender is so inclined. Not the rules of the past. If people are having good clean fun such as line dancing on Thursday then maybe the bartender will see fit to keep the fun going. So if you want to the Post lounge to stay open past 8pm, treat the bartenders nice!

The General Membership meeting for December will open as normal then be sidelined to award outstanding people of the community. Afterwards, time permitting, the meeting will continue, maybe. If there is unfinished business the meeting will be conducted two weeks later at the E-board meeting (a combination General membership meeting and E-board.)

Remember to support the Christmas Basket Program. Names for the baskets must be in by the 16th of December. We pack on the 22nd (Friday night at 7pm and deliver on the 23rd, Saturday morning.

AUXILIARY NEWS

Dear Sisters and Comrades

Our Children's Christmas Party will be held at the Rosamond Elementary School lunchroom at 6pm on December 14. This will be held in conjunction with the Cub Scouts, so please, bring your kids and grandkids and come join us. We will need cookies donated for this so I'll be calling for help.

Again this year we will be going to the Barstow Veteran's Home. We hope to go caroling along the hallways and have the Cub Scouts with us. It should be lot's of fun. If you would like to join us, I'm sure we'll have space and we can always use more voices. It is such a rewarding experience. Pleas join us if you can.

I would like to take this opportunity to say Thank YOU to everyone who has helped us during this last month. They were Barb, Mary, Callie, Amy, Pat, Vickie, Chaun, and Julie. I really appreciate all your help and I'm sure those who we serve do also.

Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday,Dec. 12 hope to see you there. I want to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and blessed New Year.

God Bless you,

Gloria Swanson
Auxiliary President

COMMANDER'S NOTES

This month there are many things to bring forward to all the members at the Post. One thing that should be on all our minds is the Holladay season as it comes before us. The Legion along with a few other groups are raising funds to provide a meal and gifts for some of the families that will not have the things that the rest of us will have. The Legionaries along with the boy scouts, and the girl scouts will be collection non-perishable foods for the baskets. These men and woman will be at the Albertson?s store in Rosamond collecting for the cause. You can also contact me if you can be assistance to the cause. I can be reached at the Post or my home number is 256-2499, you can also send us a e-mail at [email protected] . I am looking forward to hearing from you all.

I would like to thank all of the people that gave support to the Veterans ceremony and the rally that was held on November 11, 2000. We had a great turn out in the park and the Ladies Auxiliary provided a wonderful meal after the ceremony at the Post. That evening we had many that attended the rally in Lancaster in support for the veteran?s home in Lancaster. I am sure that with the support of all the veterans that we will be able to make the home realty.

On a sad note it is with deep regret that I announce that on December 31,2000 with be the last day that the canteen will be open. This has been a rough decision and one that has had much consideration. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I would be open to listen to any and all suggestions. Again you may contact me at the Post or call me at home or send a e-mail. Just remember that the canteen closing is not the Legion closing. The Legion still goes on and will meet elesware. We will continue to keep our presence known in the community and wherever veterans need help

Again I would like to thank everyone for there support in the many different functions that the American Legion participates in. To list all the names of the people that have had a hand in the events would take up the entire news letter, so I will just say thanks to you all.
