Stepping Out of the Box

Inside a tiny little box
secluded in our lives so perfect
with all our pre-judgements, prejudice
and little "people" compartments

Not sparing a thought
for the "lesser mortals"
selecting only those
that remind us of ourselves

Yet in this picture perfect haven
we unconsciously erect walls
imprisoning ourselves
stifling growth and innovation

Only with the new sight
that old eyes will bring
can we see our alienation
and total waste of opportunity

Once time has passed
and it's too late for salvaging youth
 will we find ourselves longing
to step out of the box.
