Wrecked
Our festivities well on its way with laughter
song and intoxicating drink
then a sudden time-splitting crash makes
my heart sink
Apprehension as we hear the rotor-blades
circling overhead with dizzying lights
another bottle opened we’re oblivious
to your plight
300 metres separate our night-time frolic
from gruesome, terrifying reality
it seems insane to me
your life lies broken
outside the wreck
I see the outline of your body just a
spec
Burning flaming wreck…
heated flurries of activity surround you
men in red overalls trying to save you
The facts hit home
as the rotor’s speed increase
the angel of death here to collect his
fees
The urgency a life flight now
your only saving grace
in this wrecked and mangled place
Another late night car wreck just down
the road
the realisation hits home on this dismal
night
I know there will be no driving home tonight
