Jeremiah 6 15-20 they were making the ritual increasingly MORE high powered and cosmic - buring ever more rare and expensive things thinking the more ornate and rareified the ritual the better - BUT NO! God cries out to them that they canNOT substitute more elaborate ritual for REAL LIFE OBEDIENCE to His stated will; superficial formalitied of ritual canNOT take the place or entitle them to living the rest of their time in complete contradiction to His will; He says the REAL worship takes place OUTSIDE the Temple 0- they can't use increasingly fancy "acts" of worship in the Temple to fool God into ignoring their utterly debauched abd disobedient lives OUTSIDE the Temple - confession of a contrite heart is what He "accepts" - not fancier smelling smoke (is THIS where one can trace the origins of the sneering denounciation/rejoinder "Dont try to blow smoke up my trouser leg"??) they foolishly believed fancier external superficial postures and rituals were what matteres, NOT what was in their hearts - How EASY a trap for ALL of us still yet today! Jeremiah 15 2 "captivity for the captives" this was Daniel and the 3 others - they were righteous and YET they experienced the judgement, the SAME judgement, that the wicked of Israel felt; was this a judgement on THEM? For "allowing" Israel to sin, for not more vigorously opposing national sin? or was this a reflection of the national (NOT individual) covenant relationship God had with Israel - good and bad - ALL are treated as a single national entity, with the additional individual "personal" realtionahip God had with a few;
