OK, here's a few places to wander when you're not basking here with me: For those who yearn for REAL Light in a DARK BLEAK world (hey, it doesn't take a morbid personality to realize this - just cable TV access), here's a sample of my links to Christian Literature:
To get a FREE front-row center seat to the writings of one of THE GREATEST preachers in the history of the English language, ya GOTTA check out m'man, SPURGEON at The Spurgeon Archive—Main Menu or at Spurgeon's SermonsThe Christian Literary Classics Library has got an extensive selection of Christian lit written by the greats of Christianity from the Early Church Fathers on up through the centuries. A WONDERFUL compendium of books many of whom are no longer in print, or are next to impossible to find in stores.
Here's a New American Standard Bible "on-line" for you to peruse: The WWW Bible Gateway
Want to find a place that REALLY knows how to teach great theology and teach it >well<?? Take a look at Dallas Theological Seminary - now THESE folks have got it right!
And here's where the ol' Iguana is going to Church now-a-days - try NOT to hold that against them since maybe all it >really< proves is that THESE folks know how to love ANYone! If you live in San Antonio TX, I'd urge you to come visit and see what I mean - you can at LEAST be sure of getting a free cup of coffe out of the deal, so HOW can you lose?? And take a look here at some of the sermon's I have the delight to listen to and learn from, given by the pastor of this church, Pastor Dave Smith.
Want a good example of what's available for a Christian on the WWW? Try the Ray C. Stedman Reference Library.
But HEY, that ain't ALL I got here abouts...check out THIS stuff:
MDConsult Personal Home Page You can search a BUNCH of medical text books and journals for free for about 10 days before they make you sign up for $s, or invite you off their service. Did your Doctor tell you that you got something weird sounding? Look it up here!
OR, you can take a peek at the Merck Manual- a mighty handy reference that has something to say about pretty much EVERYthing, including some exotic diseases and environmental and occupational stuff. What's New Too! A great place to wander around the WWW universe at random - man, you NEVER know what yer gonna find here...
What time is it? Hey! Howzabout getting a time hack from the Naval Observatory Time Clock?
If ya liked >that<, then take a peek hereIt's a cooooold and cruel world out there, so ya better get dressed proper before ya go out. Now, you can always call yer Mom, but y'KNOW >she's< gonna tell ya to put on a sweater ("...but MA! We live in Death Valley and it's 200 degrees out there...!" "I don't care, >I< felt a chill...put it on...") OR you can check The Weather Channel. Your call...just remember that >wool< always makes your skin itch and break out (eeeewwwww)...
While yer checking out the climate, you might as well find out if yer gonna need to put on BODY ARMOR under that wool sweater (go on, I just KNOW yer gonna end up wearing yer sweater ANYway, AREN'T ya, ya nancy-boy). So, why not give the happy-go-lucky good-news gang at CNN Interactive a squint?
Now, for some links to General Literature! So, get ready and DOWN LOAD the thoughts and dreams, declarations, hopes, beliefs and aspirations of all humanity all through the AGES! HA! And YOU thought the Web was just for lookin' at neked peeples and confirming your wacked out conspiracy theories, like the one regarding Elvis, Capt Kangaroo (the REAL ORIGINAL one, OF course), the Illuminati AND The Secret Ninth Beatle in their evil bid to DOMINATE the UNIVERSE!! mwuhHAhahahahaaaaa!!!. (Oh s-u-u-u-re, like you've never heard of THAT one before....).
The 1st, foremost and maybe the BEST of them ALL is PROJECT GUTENBURG. This has many thousands of files comprised of books, papers and other writings from darn near ANY category, covering hundreds (OK, MAYbe thousands of years) of Human History. TOO COOL. They are simple text files that take up just a little space, download quick, and can be read by any text reader (even that cheapo program Wordpad). They are always looking for folks to help out, scanning, reviewing and other such stuff to continue to add to this most marvelous Universal Library of Humanity. Hey, beats sitting around, thumb firmly lodged up one nostril, staring glassy-eyed at a bunch of over-paid reeeely big guys (hmmm...so, ok maybe they are NOT "overpaid", OK fellows? Hmmm? Guys? little joke??) clobber each other, who would NOT stop to give you the time of day for all your slavish devotion to them. JUST a thought...
BTW, another place to get access to Gutenburg is here. And here's another place to wander around looking for that obscure tome ya just can't get those "on-line" booksellers to mail ya: The ETEXT Archives
And if you'd like to see a REAL cool "Library of Libraries" presented in a really cool way, check out THIS site...The Universal Library - Hyperbolic Tree Demonstration.Maps: Gee. I dunno, there's just something about MAPS that appeals to me. I just >love< being able to look at stuff like this using the automation of the Web. Here's a couple of simple but really useful ones:

>Biological Warfare/Bio-Warfare< And YOU whiners thought Y2K or the death of Elvis was a "real" problem? Let me introduce you to the REAL world - or at least the nasty little part of it you can get to learn about through >open< sources. After wandering around this little garden of earthly delights, you're gonna BEG for Y2K (or what ever the next generic equivalent of it will be) to be the ONLY thing you got to worry about. And burying gold coins in yer backyard AIN'T gonna do you the square-root of squat-all if some of those monsters in human form get what THEY asked Santa for in their stockings...Here's the BEST intro to BW that you can find - YOU heard me, this is ABSOLUTELY THE BEST WMD site on the Web. It has the MOST comprehensive set of links to every possible NBC site imaginable on the web. What's it's location? Here it is...:
Here the USAFE Anthrax Web Page. It should be available even to those who are NOT operating from a "*.mil" domain web site.
You can also take a peek at the JAMA (that's "Journal of the American Medical Association" to the uninitiated) article on Anthrax (NOT the band, you nit-wit, the DISEASE).
And if THAT didn't chill you just a tad, take a squint at the Scientific American article on the same subject
And here's a few other places to look for BW past, present and future:The Medical NBC Information Server kim-spy2 Germ war and human experimentation Mercury Center
But hey, lets not forget the old standbys, like Nuclear War. Though, I gotta admit, it's the bugs more than than the bombs that give me the creeps of late...But NEVER let it be said the Ol' Iguana didn't give you a helping hand. Here's a whole BOOK of helpful handy hints to try out should the neighbor's dog suddenly start to cough up blood and drop dead while fetching the morning paper from the front yard - and >you<? Hmmm, you know...YOU ain't looking so peachy-keen >either<... Shoulda read the book a little sooner, ya reckon??
Take a long thoughtful look through the HANDBOOK ON THE MEDICAL ASPECTS OF NBC DEFENSIVE OPERATIONS.
NOT to mention some sources for other handy hints and advice when wandering far from home...SafeReturn Country Info Handbook U.S. State Department Travel Warnings
And just so's ya don't get all self-righteous feeling about all them sicko-crazies out there in them furrin' countries but not here in the good ol US of A, no-sirree BOB....well, then guess again Jethro...check these out:
CNN - Food terrorism a possibility, report warns - August 5, 1997
And also the CDC's article on the use of THREATS of BW as acts of terror in the US entitled - Bioterrorism Alleging Use of Anthrax and Interim Guidelines for Management -- United States, 1998Lest you fuzzy-thinking types think it's a lovely warm huggy koom-by-yah existence out there amongst the "natural" world, good ol' Mommy Dearest Nature is always cooking up sumthin' special fer her human kiddies (here's a hint for the "clue-challenged" in the audience - "NATURE" DON'T CARE IF YOU "LOVE" IT OR NOT - Yer just FOOD on the HOOF to it) - and here's a couple of places where those-in-the-know try to keep track of "Mom's" more recent homicidal efforts. I mean, just the titles >alone< ought to keep you from wandering aimlessly around in yer own backyard, much less entertaining that moronic idea to vacation out in the wilds of East Africa or the Amazon Basin this season, hmmmmm? And I >don't< think an extra can of bug repellent is gonna hack it fer ya, >either<:
FAS Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases (ProMED); Outbreak; The Hot Zone, Emerging Infectious Diseases, and, of course, last but not least, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Home Page.Aviation Medicine happens to be a specialty of mine, so I >couldn't< have a links page and not offer at least a token gesture to "that which pays the bills", now COULD I? So, give the Aviation Medicine Home Page" a peek, not to mention these sites:
The Aerospace Medical Association (AsMA) and the Society of Air Force Flight Surgeons (which has >bunches< of Aviation Medicine links, too). And howzabout the home of the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine, especially the web site of the Aerospace Medicine Primary (AMP) Course, where the USAF produces the >finest< Flight Surgeons in the WORLD. Lest you think I am lacking in the finer sensibilities, I'd like to point you towards these fascinating folks:
The Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity - These guys will make sure you don't EVER think you've "heard the whole story" on Medical Stuff in the News till you have checked with them >1st<. Can't >really< call yerself "informed" till you get several >different< sides of an issue (unless yer one o'them mental troglodytes who l-u-v-s the web cuz it offers you all the favorite personal biases you can possibly wallow in without ever running the slightest risk of challenging that l-i-t-t-l-e pea-sized brain of yers...)Gotta Web-related info-itch ya just can't seem to scratch? Well, here's 3 MASSIVE search engines that can >really< get ya plugged into what's out there (whether it's the "Truth" or not has still gotta be YER call, amigo - so get over it and start digging):

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Now THESE guys knew how to >really< see a movie...pity that the legal types kept 'em from "doing" >recent< stuff...I'd of payed a LOT more money to see THEM "do" that movie about that B-I-G boat with that embarrassing "flotation" problem (gotta avoid the legal types m'self, so I ain't naming names here) than I actually paid to SEE that movie without their presence.
