Lemon Cleansing Cream
Lemon has been long known for clearing greasy skin and smoothing wrinkles. It also has a mild antiseptic quality.
1 tbsp beeswax
1 1/2 tbsp petroleum jelly
3 tbsp mineral oil
1 tbsp witch hazel
1 tbsp lemon juice, strained
1/8 tsp borax
6 drops essential oil of lemon.
First:
Melt beeswax and petroleum jelly together over a low heat. Warm the mneral oil, then gradually add it to the wax mixture, beating for 3-5 minutes.
Second:
Add witch hazel to the lemon juice. Warm gently then stir in borax until dissolved. Slowly add this to the wax mixture, beating steadily until it's creamy and cool.
Third:
Once cool, stir in the lemon oil. Spoon into a clean jar and label.
I live in a humid climate and in the summer time I cut the mineral oil and petroleum in half.
Fennel Cleansing Milk
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 tbsp fennel seed, crushed
Gently heat milk and crushed seeds together in a double boiler for 30 minutes. Do not boil!! Let stand for 2 hours, strain, bottle and refrigerate. Use within 1 week.
My sister loves this but I can't stand the smell!
Sage Astringent My all time favorite!!
4 tbsp dried sage
4 tbsp ethyl alcohol or 6 tbsp vodka
1/4 tsp borax
3 tbsp witch hazel
10 drops glycerine
First:
Macerate the sage in the alcohol for 2 weeks and strain well.
Second:
Dissolve the borax in witch hazel. Stir into the alcohol. Mix in glycerine and pour into a bottle with a tight fitting lid. Shake before each use.
Avocado and Nettle Moisturizer
1 tsp beeswax
2 tsp emulsifying wax
8 tsp hazelnut oil
4 tsp avocado oil
1/8 tsp borax
2 tbsp strong nettle infusion, warm
4 drops cedarwood essential oil
First:
Melt the waxes together. Warm the oils and gradually beat them into the waxes.
Second:
Dissolve borax in the warm infusion. Slowly beat into the first mixture.
Third:
Allow to ool then mix in essential oil. Spoon into jars and label.
Due to my asthma, I omit the cedarwood oil
