~The Glory Of Fushigi Yuugi~

What its all about. . .

|
Fushigi Yuugi is a japanese anime that I fell in love with in the fall of 97. Thanks to my friend, Leilia, I am now addicted and eagerly awaiting Poineer Anime's release of it commercially. You see FY was what we call a fansub for a long time which means fans took it and translated it for all us people and we had to deal with bad translations and stuff.
But I digress. . .
FY is about a girl named Miaka who finds an old chinese book and by reading it beomes sucked into it and the story. Its the japanese versio of the neverending story. only a whole lot better. She becomes the Suzaku No Miko, or the maiden for the god Suzaku. She has to gather seven Seishi, or protectors, to call Suzaku and have her wishes granted. But things are never that easy. . .

The Suzaku Seishi. . .

|
Miaka has to find her seven seishi. Along the way to finding them she is kidnapped by bandits, catches a fatal disease, mistakenly finds aseishiwho is a spy for the enemy, and falls in love with the first seishi she found, Tamahome.
But the other seishi love Miaka, especially Hotohori, the emperor of the country she is in. Things get a little hairy between Hotohori and Tamahome as they compete for her. They even fight each other in one episode!
Their names are Chichiri, Tamahome, Hotohori, Tasuki, Nuriko, Mitsukake, and Chiriko. And as you can see by the picture to the left, they are all cute. . .

The Seiryuu Seishi. . .
|
Now things couldn't be that easy. We also have a group of seishi and a Miko trying to come together to call their god, Seiryuu. The catch is that Seiryuu No Miko is Miaka's best friend, Yui. At a point later in the story, Miaka manages to make it back to her world and Yui is sucked in. She is left in Kutou country and trys to find Miaka. She is caught by bandits and she thinks she is raped by them. What really happens is Nakago, shogun of Kutou country, finds her before they do and saves her. He sees by her strangedress she is a not of this world and takes her to the palace to make her the Miko for his country.
Yui blames the whole thing on Miaka saying she didn't come back to the world to help Yui, just to be with Tmahome and vows to take Tamahome from her and call Seiryuu before Miaka can call Suzaku. So you can see how messy it gets. . . .
The names of the Seiryuu Seushi are Nakago, Soi, Amiboshi, Suboshi, Muboshi, Tomo, and Ashitare. And a few of these are even cute. . . No anime should be this unfair.
