I Think Of Only You

As I walk along the beach,
and watch the waves roll in.
I think of only you,
time and time again.
The ocean has no feelings,
I know this is untrue.
For every time I hear it,
the ocean speaks of you.

Like a wolf seeking shelter,
from the dark and stormy night.
I will come running to you,
in the darkness you're my light.
Your warm and tender presence,
soothes my cold and rugged skin.
This is why I think of you,
time and time again.

It's three o'clock in the morning,
and the words I cannot find.
My heart's lost in confusion,
I'm slowly losing my mind.
I need to express my feelings,
and have the courage to say.
Girl I love you dearly,
please don't ever go away.

I wake up in the morning,
and see you there so sweet.
I think of life without you,
how bad that life would be.
When I see your smiling face,
I know that all is fine.
Because I hope deep down inside,
you always will be mine.

I want to spend my life with you,
not merely be alive.
I need your warm and tender presence,
simply to survive.
I think of how my life would be,
if I lived it without you.
I'll tell you babe right here and now,
that life would never do.

Find Your Happiness

Just as the swallow must take to flight
To escape from the bitter cold of winter,
I understand that you too must go,
To survive the cold, hard days ahead.
I have known you for a very short time,
But I have loved you a lifetime.
You have been a stretch of sun-filled, autumn days,
Among a vast sea of winter storms.
But yet, you must go and find your happiness,
For somewhere, it lies dormant, and waits for you.
You have made my life happy,
Now it's time to go and do the same for yourself.
I ask only that you stop and think of me once in a while.
And when you do, let no tear well up,
In your beautiful brown eyes.
I ask also that you smile when you think of me,
And that you will let me know when you find your happiness,
For I will never be far away.
More than anything else, I want to see you happy,
You deserve that.

What I Can Feel

I hear the rain,
I see the rain,
I smell the rain,
But no matter how long I stand here,
I will never feel the rain.

I hear the waves,
I see them crash,
I smell the salt air,
But the ocean I may never feel.

I can hear your sweet voice,
I can see your immense beauty,
I can smell your intoxicating scent,
And my love for you,
Is the only thing that I will ever feel.

Emotions

Happiness, sadness; Joy, sorrow;
Pain, relief; Confusion, understanding;
Sympathy, apathy; Courage, fear;
Restlessness, exhaustion; Caring, hurt;
Ecstacy, depression.
Separately these are mere emotions,
Combined, they encompass the only complete
Feeling of wholeness that mankind can know,
- Love -
Love is the one thing that can transform strength into weakness,
That can make the infallible become vulnerable.
Love can turn the patriot into a traitor,
And the calm and collected into the impatient and careless.
Love can make the pauper a king,
And the king it can make a vagrant.
If love is all of this, and it is,
When who can really say when they're in love?
The only one who can, is the one that would be willing,
To lay down his life to protect his true love.

True Love

Whatever happened to true love?
I look around at friends of mine and I don't see love,
I see two people who were married for convenience, money, sex,
Or maybe they were just lonely and needed to feel needed, wanted.
Whatever happened to two people getting to know each other and falling love?
This is why there are so many divorces today.
People get married for the wrong reasons, not love.
They say "I just didn't love them anymore."
You can never fall "out of love",
Once you love someone,
You will think fondly of them for the rest of your life.

Hold Me Tight

In the darkest of all nights there is sunshine,
As long as you are by my side.
In the hardiest of storms I will remain dry,
As long as you will hold me tight.

You are my dream and consolation,
When the world is black and white.
You are my color and inspiration,
As long as you will hold me tight.

When I am feeling sad and down,
You bring me sheer delight.
Because I know that you will be there,
And that you will hold me tight.

These Waves

I look upon the waves,
As they crash among the rocks.
I stare into a nothingness,
That is bigger than both of us.
There seems to be a light out there,
That rides in on the waves.
I close my eyes and wish,
It is the love that my heart craves.
They say that there are many,
Fish out in the sea.
I know that in you my love,
I've found the fish for me.
Then I gazed way up,
Deep into the night.
I try to think of you,
Up in those twinkling lights.
The love I know in you,
Is unlike the sea's old and wrinkled skin.
For as long as those waves still crash,
My love will not grow thin.
I say this in a piece of mind,
I've never had before.
And to think that this piece of mind,
Was brought on the waves that crash upon this shore.

Why Do I Love You

You ask me why I love you,
then I hesitate.
The answer is not easy,
I stop to contemplate.
I love the way you smile at me,
your eyes are always bright.
I love the way you sit and stare,
into my eyes at night.
I love to hear your voice,
when I call you on the phone.
I love the way you look at me,
when I say "Hi, I'm home".
But most of all I love you,
just because you're you.

Gentle Dream

I lie awake at night,
and think of only you.
I drift into a slumber,
that brings us into view.
A lion and a deer,
run across the plains.
They are running side by side,
as they try to escape the rain.
The lion seems to protect the deer,
from each and every peril.
He scans the brush so closely,
for creatures that are virile.
They reach their haven safely,
and lay down for the night.
They wake up in the morning,
there is once again sunlight.
The lion must be me I think,
as I awake so slow.
Then it comes to me, like the dream,
you must be the doe.

The Dove

I sit on the bow of my ship,
and wait for my true love.
I see so many pass,
then I see the dove.
It lands right on your shoulder,
and gazes into my eyes.
I think "is this to be my love?"
The dove it is so wise.
That is how it came to pass,
that you should be my girl.
For, to you my darling,
I'd gladly give the world.

Poets

We come here every other week
thursday nights at 7:30 or 8
the time is not the standard
the content is the same, but extremely diverse
from different walks of life
we come together to spill out
our guts, our hearts, our minds, our souls
our emotions and experiences are opened
to all who care to hear them
and to those who do not wish to hear them
we extend our sympathies for their ignorance and narrow minds
whether we know each other or not,
we all have our common bond.
We share that bond with each other
our poetry is that bond, that chain.
This chain includes links of different
colors, shapes, sizes, and content.
The links are all exactly the same
yet vastly different.
There is a link for me, and a link for you, and you, and you.
My link speaks of love and sentimentality,
hers speaks of sex, and hers of sensuality,
his speaks of experiences that he has had,
and who knows what the hell his speaks of
but it is his link, his soul,
so if you listen to his link
you may learn something new,
or something that was always there
that you just didn't realize,
or were too ignorant to accept its message.
Ignorance, contrary to popular belief,
is not the ugliest thing.
For ignorance can be cured
the cure is listening, understanding.
And we are all here every other thursday,
to speak our links, and to listen to others.
We are all very different, but we are all the same,
for we are curing our ignorances
and opening our thoughts and minds and hearts to each other.

A Child

A child's a gift,
From God above.
The type of gift,
That all could love.
It does not matter,
If it's a boy or a girl.
For it is another,
Life in this world.
It's the kind of gift,
That keeps on giving.
Because it's life,
Is just beginning.
When a child is born,
You must keep in mind.
It can only look forward,
Never behind.

My Box

I've got a little box at home,
It's made of cardboard and covered with paper.
When you look into my box,
You see only dust and lint.

When I look into my box,
I see happiness, joy and the good times we've shared.
I see all of the reasons why
We can be no more than friends,
And it doesn't hurt anymore.

I can actually say now,
That you are my "Friend", and not cringe.
You're still just as beautiful to me,
And I still love you just as much.
But now I love you without the pain,
The sorrow, without all of the things,
That are not in my box.

When I look into my box,
I see only my friendship for you,
And yours for me.
Now instead of dust and lint,
Maybe you'll see my memories.

What Is Your Name?

Your name is your beauty and loveliness,
Your name is your touch and soft caress.
Your name is your breath so soft and sweet,
Your name is your heart with every beat.
Your name is your eyes so deep and blue,
Your name is your word, so sweet and true.
Your name is your smile, joy it does bring,
Your name is yourself in everything.
Your name must be beautiful so please,
what is your name?

A Family

A family is a group of people who relate to each other,
whether they are related by blood does not matter.
It is a relationship based on love, trust, caring, understanding,
and the mutual need to help one another in whatever venture requires it.
Whether help is requested or not, the family will pull together to take care of its own.
Such as a wolf pack, the family must fend together
in order to receive food, shelter, or whatever it requires
to lead a comfortable existance.  The sole fact that two people
are related by blood does not mean that they are family.  They must share
the mutual caring, loving, and understanding that make a true family so
valuable.

The Figurine

When I first got to know you,
we were complete opposites.
We soon grew into a frienship,
that few people ever achieve.
I've always hoped that our friendship,
could be more than just a friendship.
But I thought that would never happen,
for we had very little in common.
Then as we talked that night,
we kissed, nothing more, just kissed.
But that kiss is worth more to me,
than anything I could ever have.
I realized that, like a figurine,
I had put you upon a shelf.
Never to be touched,
never to be held.
Only to be seen,
and thought of dearly.
Now that I'm a little wiser,
I promise that I'll never put you back upon that shelf.

Love

Of all man's emotions, only one can cause
such intense pain and relief,
such happiness and sorrow,
such fear and security,
such confusion and understanding.
Only one emotion can cause someone
to lose all control and charge forth
with reckless abandon.
This emotion which we call Love
is man's greatest treasure,
and his worst nightmare.
