High Tech Memories
Telephone lines,
Humming,
Singing their madrigal
as a million voices clamour for recognition,
Poles in rows,
Bringing us news,
Unwanted gossip
without which the world could not exist,
And now,
The swallows wait
to begin their long flight southwards,
In tunnels underground,
Perched on fibrous optical cables.

William Calderwood Wallace
