Here are some of the gods and goddesses (from the Irish and Welsh tradition) you could meet during your shamanic journeys.


arawn:

King of Annwn, the underworld and guardian of perilous places. He can give access to wisdom from ancestors.

arianrhod:

Caer Arianrhod (arianrhod's castle) was for the celts the Corona Borealis and her name means "silver wheel". She is connected to the sky or the upperworld where she lives into her spiral castle. Magician, initiatress and lady of fate. Goddess of the full moon, she is the powerful daughter of the mother-goddess Danu and sister of Amaethon and Gwyddyon. Symbol of inspiration and divination.

badb:

"Rook" and in this form she appears during battles. Along with Macha and Nemain she forms the triad called Morrigan. Symbol of death and rebirth.

belenos:

"Bright". God of medicine. His is the feast of Beltane (may 1st).

blodeuwedd:

"Born of flowers" and she was created by Gwyddyon and Math to be Llew Llaw Gyffes' bride. In her owl shape she protects the natural world.

bran:

God of inspiration and protection for bards. He has the ancestral wisdom.

brighid:

"Most high". Goddess of learning, inspiration and healing. Her feast was Imbolc (february 1st)

ceridwen:

"Divine door", the passage through which to reach OIW (or the supreme god). She is the goddess of the cauldron of wisdom from which the shaman will have to drink. Symbol of nature, life, death, energy, initiation and inspiration.

cernunnos:

The horned god, the god of animals. Symbol of strnght, power and transformation. Always depicted sitting down and cross legged, with a serpent in his left hand (the earth) and a torque in his right hand (the sky, the spirit), and wearing deer horns (illumination). Maybe he represents the shaman at work.

dagda:

Also called "Eochaid Ollathir" which means "great father" or "father of all". Druid-god of abundance, science, war, eternity, time, weather, magick and the four elements. He is the owner of the cauldron of abundance (that could feed anybody).

danu:

Mother of the Tuatha de' Danaan. Her name means "knowledge" or "sky water". Goddess of fertility and birth.

gwyddyon:

"Divine wisdom". God of magick. Symbol of shapeshifting.

lugh (irish)/llew (britannic):

Also called "Salmidanach" or "many arts". God of light, knowledge and inspiration, he protects poets and talented people.

macha:

Goddess of war, she carries the souls of the dead. With Nemain and Badb she forms the Morrigan.

manannan (irish)/manawyddan (welsh):

God of the sea. Symbol of inner vision, rebirth, shapeshifting and wisdom. He is a master of illusions and is linked with the otherworld.

nuada:

King of the Tuatha de' Danaan and owner of the sword of Nuada. During a battle he lost an arm and the craftsman god Credne made him a new one. Since then he was called "Nuada Argetlam" or "silver hand".

ogma:

The inventor of the ogham alphabeth. Symbol of wisdom, knowledge and writing.

rhiannon:

Queen of the underworld, but she travels also on the earth, riding a horse. Her ancient name "Rigantona" means "great queen". She is the goddess of the sacred land, of horses and of birds (messengers of the otherworlds).

taranis:

"Thunder". He is the god of battles and the thunder that brings water (fertility)

tigernonos:

The original celtic god. His name means "great king". Good guide through the otherworlds.
