Grom is a new god to Shalor but is probably quite old. To many Grom appears to be attempting to take the place of the dead god Durhumn the Underking. Ulgezin slew Durhumn in a great battle in which Durhumn in a successful effort sacrificed his life for his old rival Enlilz. Many are suspicious of Grom and his ultimate ambitions on Shalor but thus far Grom has only appeared to aid those good races he has come in contact with. He is either truly a good god who is on Shalor to help or he is making a strong effort to make a good impression, perhaps both are true. Grom has not only aided his followers but seems to be making war on some demon lords. Though there is reason to be suspicious of the new earth god, in these times of desperation, there is more reason to trust him. Thus many dwarves and gnomes have quickly adopted Grom as their patron deity.
Grom has appeared to his follower in one common form. He appears as a 12’ tall broad framed humanoid made of rough black stone with thick veins of gold running through his body. His eyes are brilliant glowing green emeralds, and his teeth are made of sharp diamonds. His form is impressive and is awe inspiring to those who have witnessed him. His brute strength is said to be unmatched among the gods on Shalor. Some have claimed to witness him squeeze a lump of coal in his fist to fashion a perfect diamond. Grom’s relationship with the other gods is unknown if there is any. Grom appears thus far to be a very private god who avoids association with the other gods. Grom is sometimes referred to as ‘He who swims through the earth’ because of the gods ability to move through the earth as if it were mere water.
Grom however is not the perfect dwarven or gnomish god.
He appears to show no interest in crafts or architecture. Grom also only
values precious metals and gems for their beauty and without any monetary
consideration. He grumbles at the gnome’s persistence to eat gems, but
accepts it at as necessary to their survival. He also greatly prefers the
treasures of the earth to be left in their raw form, but does sometimes
admire the form the gnomes and dwarves fashion the treasures into. Grom
considers all precious metals and gems to be his, no matter where they
are located and in whose coffers. He allows others to ‘hold’ them and ‘care’
for them, but they are always his. He has no wish to take them because
no matter where they are they are his anyway. Many pray to Grom to let
them ‘care’ and ‘hold’ his treasures and on rare occasions Grom answers
by giving them directions to some of these precious gems or metals.
