CHAKOTAY
As the 1st Officer of the USS Voyager or a member of the Maquis, Chakotay is a deeply spiritual man and a complete humanitarian.
He was born sometine in the early 2330's to Native American parents on a planet on the Cardassian / Federation border.
When he was young Chakotay, lacked his Fathers passion for their heritage and in 2353 he entered Starfleet Academy. Much to the dislike of his Dad.
After his father was killed by the Cardassians Chakotay quit Starfleet and joined the Maquis to fight against the Cardassian oppressors attacking his home planet and any others on the Cardassian / Federation border.
When his father died Chakotay began to embrace his origins and admire his Native American past. He further proved his faith by having a tatto placed on his forehead to honour his ancestry.
In 2372 he encounters descendants of the Sky Spirits (Icons from his beliefs), who visited ancient American tribes on Earth.

2354 approx:
After the Cardassian / Federation war ends he leaves Starfleet and Joins a rebel group called the Maquis when he learns that his home planet is being attacked by rebel Cardassians.
2369:
Seska, a Bajoran joins Chakotay's Maquis cell. And the two become lovers shortly after.
2371:
Chakotays Maquis ship the Zosa, is lost in the Badlands. Unknown to anyone at the time the Zosa is transported by the Caretaker to the Delta Quadrant over 75,000 light years away (In effect 75 years at maximum warp)
When the USS Voyager is sent to discover the where about's of Cpt Janeways Security Chief, who is on an undercover mission on the Zosa. It is also transported to the Delta Quadrant and soon after Chakotay Sacrifices the Zosa to save Voyager and merging the 2 crews into one Janeway makes Chakotay her Executive Officer.
Chakotays consciousness is separated from his body and roams Voyager in a disembodied state. Being able to take over other peoples bodies for a short period he uses his medicine wheel to instruct the Dr on how to re-integrate his body and mind.
Seska, Chakotays former lover is revealed to have been a Cardassian spy and she defeacts to the Delta Quadrant race the Kazon.
2373:
Both Chakotay and Janeway have to leave Voyager and live on a planet after they are bit by an insect that infects them with a virus that will kill them if they leave that planet. Expecting to remain on the planet for the rest of their lives Chakotay shows his various skills by building various things such as the shelter they live in and a bath. He also designs a boat and plans to build a log cabin of some sort.
Also in this year Kes experiences an ultimate time-line, in which Chakotay is now Captain of Voyager after the death of Captain Janeway.
