The Golden Age

Dec. 1941: The United States declares war against Japan. Joining the war effort, many heroes band to form the All-Star Squadron to fight Axis forces. All-SS 1-67 9.81-2.87
July 1942: Wonder Woman III (Hippolyta) arrives from the future, aiding the JSA against Paula Von G�nther/Dark Angel. She remains with them through 1950. [Note: in pre-Crisis continuity, the Wonder Woman of Earth-2 was Princess Diana.] (WW 130-133) (2-5.98)

The Justice League of America is officially formed. Vandal Savage sends Thorn, Eclipso, Solomon Grundy and Clayface after them. Representing a secret benefactor, Simon Carr offers the league the resources to set up their headquarters. Guest apps: Metamorpho, Green Arrow I, Batman, The Challengers of the Unknown, The Blackhawks, Green Lantern I & Wildcat. (JL:YO 2) (2.98)
The League adopts the mountain in Happy Harbor, Rhode Island as their Secret Sanctuary. It acts as a "Silica Macrochip," storing data. Note: a post-Crisis-only tale. (Sec.O 46) (12.89)

Simon Carr is revealed to be possessed by another Appellax native. The Leaguers' suspicions of J'onn leads to a devastating inferno. (JL:YO 9) (9.98)
Locus is defeated, but an eighth Appellaxian summons an invasion. The Leaguers reveal their identities to one another. (JL:YO 10) (10.98)
Most active super-heroes are captured by the Appellaxians, then released by the JLA. Simon Carr is freed from the alien possession. (JL:YO 11) (10.98)
Alien invaders capture most of Earth's heroes, including the JSA, The Blackhawks, and The Freedom Fighters, and place them in concentration camps before being defeated by the JLA. Through teamwork, the JLA sends the aliens back to their homeworld. Oliver Queen revealed as the JLA's mystery financier. The two Green Lanterns meet for the first time. Hawkman I tells the JLA members that the Justice Society considers them worthy successors. Notes: The appearances in this story of The Flash I (who was not freed from Keystone City for another year, per Flash Secret Files # 1), The Seven Soldiers of Victory (not freed for two more years according to JLA Secret Files # 1), and Uncle Sam (who vanished shortly after World War 2 for reasons explained in Spectre v3 # 38) probably should be considered apocryphal.
