James (Jim) Carrey was born on a cold, January 17th, in 1962. Where do you ask? Well,New Market, Ontario in Canada. His family were full of hard workers who never had the easy way out. Growing up poor was really hard on Jim, and while he was in his teens he had to take a job as a janitor when his father lost his job. School was becoming harder and harder, with jokes from everyone, making fun of him. School eventually lost out and he dropped out during his highschool years. During this time of his life, he described himself as being very angry at himself, but he began to develop a tremendous sense of humor to help him cope and to shield his anger from the world. He�d sit for hours at one time just staring at the mirror, making jokes and funny faces. He was a loner during these times, and didn�t have any friends, but it didn�t matter much because he didn�t want any. Between school and his work, there wasn�t much time at all for a childhood. At the age of 15 though, Jim had enough time at night to perform at Yuk Yuks, a famous comedy club in Toronto. Eventually, Jim moved to LA and did his circuit at the clubs there; while in LA, Rodney Dangerfield was caught by Jim�s hilarious skits and monologues, and put him on his tour. Jim�s big break came in 1990, when he landed a role on the new sketch comedy show �In Living Color�, with all African-Americans--Jim standing out as the lone white guy. Jim�s character on �In Living Color� was Fire Marshal Bill, but the hilarious skit was yanked when critics claimed that it encouraged kids to play with fire. This controversy put his name in the headlines for the first time.
