Everything you've always wanted to know about South
Park*
*but were afraid to ask.
The character of Mephesto is based on Marlon Brando's character
in 'Island of Dr. Moreau'.
Mr. Hankey was inspired by Trey Parker's dad's efforts to
get Trey potty trained. He said that Mr. Hanky will jump out of the toilet
and annoy him forever if he didn't go in the potty.
Trey Parker is supposededly a Marilyn Manson fan, which
is why all the written "n's" on the show are backwards. (Not that we're
fans)
Matt Stone actually lived in
South Park, CO when he was a kid.
most of the characters are based
on real people. For example, Kyle is based
on Matt Stone, Stan on Trey Parker, and Mr. Garrison on Parker's literature
professor (he talked exactly like Mr. Garrison!) Wendy
Testaburger was based on Parker's fiancee, who dumped him later. Also,
Parker has an older sister named Shelley (like Stan) who also had orthodontal
headgear and bullied her brother.
Hopefully, in the South Park
movie (or in an upcoming episode) Kenny will be unmasked. Parker says that
it'll be like Darth Vader's unmasking in Return of the Jedi.
Apparently, Stone and Parker
are Sci-Fi fans, due to all the Star Wars/Trek references.
Originally, in the pilot, more
than 5,000 actual construction paper cutouts were used, and each action
individually filmed.
When Mr. Hankey made his poo marks, they actually scanned
chocolate into the computer to do that.
All Trey Parker watches on TV are football and Jerry Springer.
They say Springer's show is inspirational.
Matt and Trey had to shave a few
inches off of Cartman to fit him in his school desk.
Chef's songs are written
by Trey Parker, who studied music theory in college.
Cheesy Poofs were made up because
they couldn't get legal clearence to use Cheetoes.
According to Stone and Parker,
if the boys were to grow up, Stan might have a TV show, Kyle might be a
scientist, banker, or a slumlord, cartman would sell insurance, and Kenny
would be dead.
Pip is named from a character
in Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations."
The creators originally couldn't figure
out how to make their legs move, so they had the snow always up to their
knees.
Originally, Jerry Seinfeld was slated
to play a vicious turkey in "Starvin Marvin", but his agency declined the
role, wanting something bigger.
The creators gave their first
pilot episode to FOX, but they rejected it. That pilot was called
"The Mr. Hankey Show." But Fox executive Brian Graden convinced them to
focus on the boys and the town.
Making Kenny's blood is simple: it
comes from a Sharpie red marker ink dot that is scanned into the computer.
Here are the voices: Trey Parker
does: Stan, Cartman, Mr. Garrison, Mr. Hat, Officer Barbrady, Mr. Mackey,
Phillip, and Mr. Hankey. Matt Stone does Kyle, Kenny, Jesus, Jimbo, Terrence,
Pip, and Big Gay Al.
