AS IF I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH SURPRISES!

Well, it's Sunday and Jane and the children are heading back home today. Roger, Bob and I are here until tomorrow. After a very decadent breakfast of smoked salmon, cream cheese and bagels, Roger suggested going to another town called Folkstone for the afternoon, to visit their Sunday Market and have a nice quiet lunch. Sounded perfect to me !! Bob was to drive us to Folkstone and pick us up later in the day, after spending the afternoon on the beach with Jane and the kids. We park the car in Folkstone and after a short walk, we're looking way down at the beach, and I'm wondering, how the hell are we supposed to get down there?? Well, Bob and Roger shuffle me onto this thing called the Cliff Lift, which is like a cable car except the car at the top fills up with water and as it gets heavy it decends. These guys get a real kick out of making me face my fears... heights being one of them!!

It doesn't look so bad in the pic, but scared me to death when I was on it !!

We walked some more and Bob points out that if we go a little further we would have a great view of the White Cliffs of Dover. Gullible me tagged along, looking at the sites and following these guys like a lost sheep. We go into a building where Bob and Roger go talk to this very smartly dressed lady behind a desk. Again, being totally unaware of where exactly in England I am, I am clueless as to what is going on. I ask what the heck they are doing and Roger is quick to say.... "Why, we're going to France for lunch!" I'm surprised they didn't have to pick me up off the floor. I hugged Roger and wiped the tears from my eyes as Bob waved goodbye and we checked in and showed our passports. Thank god I had my passport with me !! LOL

This is the ticket that took us to Boulogne France on the Seacat.

Thank god the waters in the Channel were calm, as another one of my fears is boats on rough water. I'm just the world's biggest wimp!! I was still shaking from the shock of it all, but was quick to calm down once we left England and were headed for France.

This is me on the Seacat and the coast of England in the background... this is also the only day I didn't bring my coat when I could have actually used it......LOL

This is where we were headed and the ship we were on.

It took slightly over an hour to get to France, and once off the boat, we hopped a taxi (the only one there) and went for a 5 minute cab ride to the place where Roger wanted to eat. We walked around the streets a bit and then stopped in at a tiny little place for a drink. The people here were very friendly and they had the cutest little pointer puppy !!

You would never see a sign like this at home......... this guy spoke no English, but he was hilarious.

After our drinks and a quick french conversation between Roger and the guy pictured above, we walked down to find a restaurant where we could sit back and relax for a couple of hours. We found a great restaurant which had plenty of seafood on the menu and settled in.

My appetizer was of course Escargot, which were the best I've ever had.... Roger had the raw Oysters...

Here we are enjoying lunch, wine and each other's company..... *Cheers*

After a long and very romantic lunch for two, we got a taxi back to the terminal to board the Seacat back to England. I still couldn't believe I went to France for lunch and the memory will last me my lifetime, as will the whole holiday.

Bob was in Folkstone to greet us and take us back to Dymchurch, where Roger and I had planned on taking Bob out for dinner. After telling Bob all about our afternoon in France, we headed up to the pub. Roger and I were still full from lunch and Bob didn't really want anything to eat, so we just sat and talked and had a few drinks.

I took this picture because I couldn't believe they allowed dogs to run around in the pub !!

Here are Bob and Roger ....... boys will be boys!! LOL

Well, it's late Sunday night and tomorrow evening I go home......... the time was going way too fast and I wished it would stop.

Go ahead....click on it !!!!!
