Vampire Hunter D

Vampire Hunter D is one of the darkest anime movies I have ever seen. While not being one of my favorite movies, I still enjoy watching it. It is set in the distant future where all sorts of creatures roam the earth. Werewolves, mutants, mist monsters, and worst of all...vampires. To battle these monsters, some people become "hunters" and work to destroy the creatures.
The movie starts off with a girl, Doris, who is bitten by Count Magnus Lee, an ancient and powerful vampire. Doris seeks to find someone to destroy Lee because he know wants to marry Doris. Enter D. He is a mysterious, dark, cloaked figure who seems a little more special than an ordinary vampire hunter.
Doris hires D to stop Lee from taking her as his bride. But the Count has many followers who try to stop D.
The animation is a little crude in some places, but overall is not bad. Some of the creatures of the future are actually quite interesting to look at.
The plot itself is simplistic and rather naive at times. However, there are a couple of plot twists that make the story rather interesting. Plus it's exciting once you find out who D really is.
Overall, it's not a bad movie. However, I wouldn't suggest making it your first buy. Perhaps when you have some spare money. But it is entertaining to watch.
It is rated for mature audiences because of the extreme violence, large amount of blood and gore, and some brief nudity. DEFINITLY not a movie to be viewed by younger children.
