Vinny's Kitchen Organizer
Dave (Vinny) Vincent of Massachusetts, USA, is a good web-friend of mine and he has came up with this great project. It's his own design and he publishes on his website, the free plan, printable drawing and very thorough construction method. When I saw this project, I just had to make one and I wanted to make all of the regular visitors to Grampa's Workshop, aware of Vin's great project too.
When I recently made my version of it, I changed the design only slightly - I made this one without the cutouts in the tops of the drawer fronts by which Vin opens his drawers, and I used small brass knobs for that purpose. I also made my version so that the drawer fronts would not protrude when resting against the first section front, because they're mounted differently than Vinny's. This modification was needed because of the alteration I had made. To do this, I cut the dado for that piece slightly further back..
This project requires the use of tablesaw, routertable, sanders, jigsaw or scrollsaw and drill. This is a very useful piece for every home, and once you've made one, you'll wonder how your home ever did without one. It can be made of any type of wood, although I suggest oak or other similar hardwood. Give it 3 coats of your favourite spray finish and it's ready to use.
Here's the URL for Vin's [aka Binky's] home page: http://www.binkyswoodworking.com/ . When you get there, look for a link to the Kitchen Organizer. When you get to that instructional page with lots of great visuals which will help you immensely on this project, you'll also find a link to the PRINTABLE PLAN.
NOTE: Be sure to check out Vin's site thoroughly while you're there. There is lots to be learned there for all woodworkers from this versatile craftsman, no matter what your level of expertise may be!.
