Famous Five, the first Birmingham Six?

The names just flow from the tongue. Amazing days, sitting at home reading a Famous Five novel. Good old Dick and grumpy old Uncle Quentin. Many an afternoon could be spent following the adventures of those five intrepid youngsters in their quest for justice in and around the English countryside.

Julian the father-like figure to the rest of the gang, the responsible one, 12 years old. He used to keep them in line if they became giddy-goats or started playing the fool.

His younger brother Dick. He was almost the ruffian of the group. He was probably the first of the Five ever to swear. Probably at age 23 but still the first.

Ann, the younger sister of Dick and Julian. Sort of the Famous Five's version of that woman with long hair from Scooby Doo - what's her name? Does bugger all.

George, the tom-boy of the group. Did she grow up to be a lesbian? I don't know, to be honest I doubt they ever grew up. Always staying at age 12 and under. Allowing jigsaw puzzle makers a constant base market.

Timmy, George's pet, she loved Timmy more than anything. Even ginger beer, even ice cream even climbing. Surely not! Timmy just barked at the bad guys and they fell over in shock.

Famous Five books were in short, complete pants. I read them, I probably read all of them. I liked them, not realising how UNREALISTIC they were. Or maybe I'm nit-picking; they are kids books after all.
