It was announced today that Everton's Nick Barmby had been signed by Fillingbrough Under 15s. In a 4 1/2 million pound move Nick Barmby becomes Fillingbrough's record signing.
The rules of the County League were changed during the week to allow Fillingbrough u-15s to field an overage player. And in Nick Barmby they have a player with tons of experience, including travelling with the England squad during Euro 96.
Nick 26 said of joining Fillingbrough: "Here at Fillie we have a good crop of young players who I believe in a couple of years time could be challenging for honours." When asked if he thought his move was a backward one he said: " There's no bigger club than Fillingbrough, there's bags of potential here. Filingbrough are a sleeping giant."
So the news is out. Fillingbroughs title chase is for real.
Nick Barmby is expected to play some role in Fillingbroughs game versus Bolwich u-15s on the weekend. Probably as substitute.
