With so much uncertainty over the possible future of MST3K, in large part due to a paranoia drenched article on our sister site Satellite News, we here at Captioneer News felt it was our civic duty to find out what effect, if any, MST3K's possible cancellation would have on Caption This.
First the bad news: One Source inside the Sci-Fi Channel headquarters informs us that any opportunity that presents itself would be used to shut down Caption This, from the canceling of MST3K, to blaming it one the Y2K bug, or maybe even something as ridiculous as global warming or coffee futures. The reason why? According to our source, "Higher Management sees Cappers as insolent regarding the Sci-Fi Channel and its programming, they whine and complain about the slightest change, and they overtax our servers to the point that people who want to can't chat about Star Trek or buy our crappy merchandise! Caption This would have been shut down long ago if it weren't the only place on the Dominion that gets more hits then Sci-Fi's parent company's Simulated Porno site... Err I mean USA Network, I always make that mistake". Our source also had some damaging information about the string of Blackouts that have plagued Caption This, while official reports blame the outage on a nearsighted janitor, our source claims, "That was to teach the little crappers a lesson, for all the annoying letters about the banners, and then the newer banners for online events, and then they pick fights with some Ringer idiot and expect us to waste valuable time settling matters! Who do you think read those damn letters, Management? Ha! Also we wanted to test the waters and see how a shut-down would go... some of you freaks stayed on for up to three hours with a blank screen! What do you care if it shuts down? You want a piece of me?"
So it looks like maybe we're all out on our asses, but now the good news: More then a few websites are springing up to fill the needs of Cappers everywhere! Some tied into already existing channels, and others hoping to use advertising revenues to raise funds to start their channels. Here is a small sampling of the grabbers grabbing for your attention.
