THE POLITICIAN

by Peter Cozmyk

There was a governor of a renowned state.
Born to riches, only the finest foods he ate.
A well dressed man who wasn't too old,
with a tuxedo, a top hat, and buttons of gold.
His hair was dark brown, and his eyes a deep blue.
The grin on his face was as real as he knew.
Being an educated man, for he went to Yale,
he was a man that all people would hail.
His tongue was like fire, for he knew just what to say.
The people all loved him, never neglecting to pay.
An honest person, whose conscience was his guide,
he stretched the truth a bit, but he never lied.
A man of compromise whom the law could not touch.
He could talk his way out if it didn't cost too much.
He was a churchgoer, a man of God.
Though the religion he practiced seemed somewhat odd.
The churches he went to were different each year,
but wherever he went, the press would be near.
The man was a leader, who always took charge,
but his advisors would handle it if it wasn't too large.
His minions would all listen, and do as he desired.
If they didn't agree with him, they would be fired.
Prestigious was he, a man with fame.
People everywhere would remember his name.
He adjusted his morals to fit people's views,
Death to the unborn was one weapon he'd use.
Gays in the army, sex on the air,
Whatever the issue, he didn't care.
Taking both sides to please people more,
He was a politician down to the core.
His army was strong and ready to fight,
and all of their foes would shake at their sight.
He had lots of missiles, and he still wanted more,
but peace was his goal, he hated war.
His taxes were high and his laws were unfair,
but he need not adjust them since his paycheck was there.
Crime rate was high, and employment was low,
but his checks were all good, unlike his foe.
His opposition was weak, and they had lost face.
He had ruined their reputations to win the race.
He promised a better life, just as he must.
His promise wasn't possible, but he won their trust.
He lead all the polls with the people's affection.
So it must have been fate that he won re-election.
