bands i have met.........
REM :
See, I worked at Riverport Ampitheater (Our concert hall , for the national fans) this summer. So , i got some access to the backstage area. I was returning a book to Katt at the South Bar , and I passed thru the backstage area. I spotted a familiar bald head. It was none other than Micheal Stipe , lead singer of REM. I went , shook his hand , and talked at length about their work. That was fan-tabulous.
SKUNK ANANSIE : I went to a show they played , one of the pointfests. My friends were real skeptical about the band (they'd never heard them) , so I forced them to watch the show. They were instant believers. After their blustery 30 minute set , they loped off the stage. Me , being a consumate autograph hound , lunged out at Skin (the lead singer) with my "cool shirt" which already bore the autographs of Dickie Barett (mighty mighty bosstones) , Henry Rollins , and a good portion of the Cunninghams. Skin ignored me , but the guitarist , Nigel was kind enough to scrawl his John Hancock next to Dickies'. I was a true believer from that point on. Rock !
HETEROSEXUAL AND ASHAMED : I was good friends with the band's leader and heretic , Tim Cornell. I went to about 7 of their shows , bought their cd on the "black market" , and talked to Tim alot. That's a really sucky story , I know. Too bad.
ORGY : Once again , my Riverport job came into play. I was working the Ozzfest last year , and Orgy had just started getting radio play on "blue monday". When I was walking back to clean up the condiment carts on the South side , I saw this lanky guy standing , talking into a cell phone. I recognized him from the Blue Monday video , and said "hey". He held up a finger 'hold on a sec' . He finished up the conversation (which i later learned was with his swedish model girlfriend) , and had a quick chat. It was cool.
Mini Skirt Fetish : This is another local group that I'm in good with. They were playing a great set at a battle of the bands at JFK high school. I was there , all gothed out , after seeing my girlfriend's band play. Pete was cool enough to let me stay on stage , and even sing a song with them. It rocked. We were the best.
