Most Obviously , before you can have the
under Construction banner on your page, Your gonna need a a place
for your new home on the net.
if you ever visited my site, and payed closer attention to the
address, you probably saw that I have my page scattered on many
servers.so, in here The Trio will give you a brief review of a
bunch of servers, and tips on where to go depending on what kind
of page your planning to make. in the name of the server,
there's a link to the server itself.
Note: These are only our oppinions of the servers, from our experience in working on them. if you have another oppinion, send it to us, but stuff like " Your wrong about X because it rocks!!!" won't be accepted. if X rocks, tell us why.
Monorus and Ellen, I added a contents to make navigating easier. I've also added my views on what makes a good server, and what rating I'd give the ones listed below.
The Verdict Key
= ewwwww...... = hmmm... not to good
= Fair = Not Bad!
= Really Good = + 50 better
The Contents
Special: 20megs of space, great for image loaded sites.
Hey, this is the one we're on,
so I suppose it earns the right to be the first to get
rated.
okay, first off, fortune city is offering a ton of space,
(20 mb) almost 2x as much as some of the others.
navigation is rather easy, it gives you the choice of
editing either in html, ftp, or a begginbers
program. you can upload a basic of 10 files,
with the choice for more, but the more there are, the
slower it gets. the editing window pops up,
and gives you a look at what you made as soon as you
press " save changes".
theres a few bugs though, which
drag this server down. in advanced html editor, when
creating a new file, it doesnt save correctly the first
time around, and depending on what time you are in the
editor it will take forever to get anything done. ( but
then, that is a common weakness.)
also, the upload size limit per file is 1 mb, so don't
plan on using movies in your page. also, mp3 is
forebidden. other than these few flaws, this is a good
server.

My views are a bit different from Monorus'. I'd give Fortune City a "Fair" rating. This is because of the horrible bugs that plague this server. Sure they give you a lot of space, but what good is 20 mb of space if you can't edit properly? It is also horribly slow, and mostly unpredictable. The only saving grace for this site is the fact that you can have 20 megs.

special: Good editing choices, large libuary of sounds/pics to use, 5-7 megs of space.
a good server, I'm not sure
how your site is promoted there, but it is a great
server for text based sites.
you start with 5-7 megs of space ( this may have gone
from 5 to 7 now, I havent been there in a while) and get
the choice between a begginers building tool or an
advanced building tool.
the coice which you want to use even after having created
the page is a nice touch.
there is only one bad thing I can say about angle fire, and it's the fact that you can only upload 1 file at a time, which can make for a long computer session if you want to make an image filled site. angel fire also offers a large libuary of images, buttons, bullets, backgrounds, and sounds to use.

special: free Guestbook, counter, ect. good for image loaded sites.
ah... nostalgia... this brings
back old memories... I started my very first page on
here, and learned html there as well...
but enough with the sentimental moments. lets see how
this sucker is.
okay, geocities gives you a starting space of 11mb, with the choice to buy more later. the html editor is the easiest to use I have tried so far, and the geobuilder is a great way for begginers to start their own page.
you can upload a basic of 5 files per time, with the coice for more, but again, after 10 it gets nerve grindingly slow. being given the coice to preview a site, free guest books, and counters ect. is nice too.
however, this server too can get extremely slow at rush hour, and the subdirectories can tend to be a pain to use.

Geocities has a neat new interface. They've been around for awhile, for the most part they know what they are doing. I do wish that they'd get their javascript branding image straightened out. It really angers me. Ah well.........

special: 11 megs of space, good for text based sites.
digi web is basicaly identical to angelfire, exept for the lack of large libuaries of stuff.
you also cant have most tipes of music on your site. aside from these problems it's rather easy to use. I'm not sure about begginers being able to work it very wel though....

special: 11 megs of space...
I may be doing something wrong, but I
really don't like Tripod's editor.
it is filled with popups, and unless you backup your site on your
pc, there is no way you can make changes to existing documents
that I found. which can be a major pain in the _ _ _ if you
have a broken link or something of the sort.
you can only upload 4 files at a time, period.
there are a few good sides to this server, like the ability to rename a file in the server before uploading it, as well as a html tag that gets added to your page, promoting it automaticaly to search engines, but in comparison to how poor the file manager functions, this doesn't do tripod much good.
