The Parking Lot Archive

Here we see the parking lot stripers are at it again

Synopsis

The story of this archive is more of a 2-year saga.  Around the time of James Bone (Fall 1998), Jackson and Kurt, upon seeing that the parking lot of the Methodist Church has been recently blacktopped, decided to do an archive that would convey the emotion and hard work that the parking lot stripers put in to the jobs that they performed.  Little did they know; the jobs that these men performed, was an even more profound task.
"It is more than just another archive or documentary." explained Jackson, "It is an emotional roller coaster that you will be entirely wrapped into when you view it."
The archive consists of on site video of the work in progress, as well as rare interviews of the parking lot workers on the job.  It truly is a sight to behold.
"I remember times during filming that we became as captivated with the painters jobs as they were." Kurt explained. "There was one time when we were all in stunned silence when it appeared that the blue paint would run out before the the handicapped spots were striped off.  I am still having nightmares."
This is one of the last archives that is remnant of the old analog days.  It was filmed in fall of 1998, not long before the digital camcorder came around.  The raw footage had been laying around for a year and a half, until spring break of 2000, when time was found to finish it up.  The ideas for the final product were mostly realized when it was filmed, but it wasn't until the time that post production actually commenced that the ideas could be implemented.
The final product is an exciting achievement that is a joy to watch.

Official release date:  March 14, 2000
