KSJP and the Giant Shrinking Machine
Here is a shot from "KSJP and the Giant Shrinking Machine."
Synopsis
The beginning of 1999
brought new technologies that Jackson and Kurt had the capabilities of
harnessing for use in the archives. With the ability to digitally
record videos and edit them on computer, the possibilities were virtually
endless.
"KSJP and the Giant Shrinking
Machine" is the first of what will become a new era in our archives
- the use of digital technology. We wanted to test our "blue screen"
technology and we decided to do this archive pretty quick. We wrote
the script, shot the scenes, and rendered the effects all in a matter of
a few hours. Jackson was shot first at a distance in front of a white
wall doing his one sided conversation. Next, Kurt was shot from the
camera placed on the desk. In order to keep the conversations in
sync, Kurt listened to Jackson's part through an ear bud placed in his
left ear, out of site. Next, the two filmed sequences were put together
by taking all white out of Jackson's video. The result turned out
pretty good, but we are aware of the goofs that can be seen. We know
why some things were a little off, and that won't be a problem in the future.
This was also the first archive to be filmed entirely digitally.
Even though there were goofs, our official archive reviewer, Rev. Dennis
D. Price gave it rave reviews. "Outstanding!" said Dennis.
Official release date: March 12, 1999
