Music? I love it!

Music! It just does something magic to me!

The Best Band in the World! Yeah!

Is only available by recordings now.

Who?

Why, The Grateful Dead, of course!

I hope that you were lucky enough to have been able to see the boys. There just wasn't anything in the world like a Grateful Dead concert.

We miss you, Jerry!

I was lucky enough to be "on tour" for several years, and I was able to see the guys in about 36 shows. I sure wish I had been able to get into more!

If you never got to be there, I hope that you can go and hear "The Other Ones" (the rest of the boys), when Phil gets over his recent illness and they get back to playing again.

Check out The Grateful Dead Homepage to keep up with what is happening, concerts, tours and bands.

What a long strange trip it's been!

Also I like a lot of other bands as well, and if you know them, you probably are into some of the same things that I am. Like "Rusted Root" for an example!

Atlanta is a real hot-bed for good local music, there are too many bands to tell you about, but some of them get big!

Another favorite of mine is from Tampa Florida, "Magadog"!
These guys are a hell of a lot of fun!

And from Mexico, if you ever get the chance, go and see "Las Rastrillas".

Good music is everywhere!

I am a musician too, I have been playing the piano since I was big enough to be able to reach the keys! I am still studying. I have worked my way up to twentieth century classics (finally) but I am still working on the first half. I am especially into Debussy, Ravel, Rachmaninoff, and Gershwin. I am learning "Gaspard de la Nuit" by Ravel. I will need about 5 or 10 more years to finish it, it is really tough!!

I have recently started learning his "Alborada del Gracioso", It is tough too, but hopefully won't take me as long to learn!

I have some music that I play you might like to hear. Not me playing it, they are midi files. Now understand, that I don't really like midi music, it lacks in sound quality of the intruments, tends to be very "mechanical" sounding with respect to the "feel" of the music, and then most of the midi "artists" are not good musicians at all, they simply enter the music into the program and use poor musical judgement about the types of sounds that are used to reproduce it.

I would like to have some Real Audio files of me playing that you could listen to, but Real Audio files take up more room than I can give them on this server. Also, lots of people don't have Real Player, and then again, there seems to be a lot of problems with the Real Player downloads, that tend to crash systems. So until the technology can catch up with what I would like to do, I am only gonna have midi files here.

However, these particular midi files show a lot of artistry, the musicians have worked hard to eliminate the most garish of the usual midi "failings", have not fallen into playing with the "wierd" sounds, and have worked hard to try and reproduce the music the way the composer had in mind.

Still it isn't perfect, they just haven't gotten the good piano sound down electronicly yet. Mainly noticible is that they are short on sustain, soft notes are harsh on "attack", and the general lack of sonority and resonance of a real piano.

Be sure to check the settings on the midi player you have, and put the settings on Roland or a good piano sound, make sure you aren't on the "crystal" setting. If the music does sound like a piano, your settings are right.
