I was born July
13th, 1981 in Mason City, Iowa. My parents were both very young, my
mom was 18, and my father was 20. I was to say the least a complete
and total surprise to my parents. I was a prematiure sickly baby.
Had mulitple ear infections, and in one instance a case of
Jaundice. In order to make ends meet my father worked as a
Yard foreman for a local lumber yard called Budget Builders. From
there he woke up every morning at 4am and drove a flatbed truck up
to Rochester Minnesota. He was a foreman for the Mason City yard and
the Rochester yard. He wouldnt return home till 5 or 6pm at night.
He also was the manager of the apartment complex we lived in. My mom stayed home full time with me.
After my uncle married my aunt my father
was offered a job by my uncle as a Store Manager for a oil company
called Ware Oil Co. or Wareco. After training for about a month with
my uncle who ran the Mason City store. He was given his own store in
Marshalltown, Iowa. I was 4 when we moved there. Life in
Marshalltwon was good. We moved into a small house on the outskirts
of town. My best friends lived across the street from us. Their
parents were also friends of the family. My dad hunted with
theirs and my mom did crafts and things like.
As far back as I can remember I was
always my fathers shadow. I admired everything he did. I looked up
to him and learned from him. He and I hunted together, pushed snow,
and did carpentry work. My father taught me most of what I know
about hunting, and about carpentry work. He wa also the person who
taught me the ins and outs of bussiness.
Thanks to him, I now own and operate my
own small bussiness. I have a company called JDC and Company. I
specialize in buffing, stripping, and waxing of industrial tile.
This is tile such as the tile in retail stores like Wal-Mart and
K-Mart. I have 5 floors that I do for Clark. I use this money to pay
off my college expenses.
It used to be that I wanted to be an
locamotive engineer. As a child there was only one way I would fall
asleep with my grandparents. That was if they drove around town and
found a train. I guess I loved trains. When I was 8 or 9 my parents
bought me a train set. The irony about this is that today, a train
is something I despise the most. There isnt anything more
annoying than a slow moving train when I'm in a hurry to get
somewhere.
In the summer of 1990 my parents bought
me my very first computer. It was an old Compaq 486sx. I remember
all the specs for it. It had a 400mb hard drive, 16mb of ram, and a
486sx 33mhz processor. I remember when we went into Best Buy to buy
a computer. All we knew is we wanted a Compaq. I didnt know anything
beyond that. The only reason I picked the one I did, was because it
had two disk drives. It had a 5 1/4 and a 3.5 inch drive. Looking
back upon it now it was a good choice considering. It came loaded
with the start of the art GUI (Graphical User Interface) Windows
3.1.
Ever since then I
have changed what I wanted to do in life. I became interested in
computers. For some reason the computer struck me as something I
would enjoy. Ever since then it has been a non-stop learning process
to learn everything possible about them. I used to make my parents
so mad. About the only that I was good at was messing them up. I
messed my computer up so often it barley ever ran a complete day
without a crash. But thanks to this I learned how to fix what I
messed up. Today I like to beta test software. So even today I still
crash my computer at times.
My new passion isnt so much computers
but connecting them together. I'm a computer network engineer. I
took part in an experimental class at the local community college
while I was in highschool. The class was part of an nation wide
effort by Cisco Systems to train the new wave of students in
computer networking and topology. I had planned to get my CCNA (
Cisco Certified Network Associate ) certifacation at the end of the
course. But I never got aroudn to taking the test.
So now my new passion is Web Site Design
and authoring. Right now its just messing around. But with more
experience I may make this into somehting that I could possibly make
some money off of.
