Leaves Fall

Lonely shadows on a road strewn with memories,

And shattered dreams covered by withered leaves.

Youth walks this way each sun-burnt morn,

Treading freely on the hardened earth.

Carefree footsteps that leave no imprint

But faint echoes linger on at barren dusk

Deceptive daylight slinks furtively away

Stooped shoulders of experience plod on

Merry eyes once filled with flower-trimmed skies

Now downcast warily to avoid reality-twisted roots

Ashes to ashes
