The Beowulfe Class Corvette was the RCN's first space cruiser. It is small compared to the more recent Light Frigates and Heavy Cruisers, but in its early stages it was quite the ship.

Rano "Skylift" Borskman made a second attempt to build another `dream ship' by designing the first Canis space cruiser. He thought up the design late one night as he was reading a book. The way he folded the book upside-down gave him the idea for the ship's hull design, giving it the appearance of a bird in flight with its wings down. He drew a few preliminary sketches, then showed his designs to the Canis Army. They approved the design and production began three months later.

The "Beowulfe" Corvette is only 120 meters long, but carries more weaponry than a standard Imperial Corvette (Corellian Corvettes are commonly used by the Empire). It is armed with eight laser cannons for defense against fighter attacks. They are located in a blister on the top of the ship behind the bridge. This protects the top of the ship, but leaves the bottom undefended. The two turbolaser blisters overhang the backs of the wings and run along half the length of each one so as to cover the bottom and protect the ship from low angle attacks.

Also along the belly of the ship is its sensor pod. This pod contains both long and short range sensors. It can detect and scan ships from far enough distances that if the ship proves to be hostile the Corvette has enough time to escape.

The ship usually carries no fighters but it has three retractable docking clamps that allow it to dock with a wide variety of ships. Fighters may be mounted here but the time that it would take to board them would be too long, as the pilot would have to float through space for a few seconds in a Zero-G suit.

The "Beowulfe" gets its thrust from a pair of powerful Lupus X-445 Capital Ship Turbochargers. This allows the ship to outrun larger ships such as the Nebulon B-Class Escort Frigate and the slower Corellian Corvettes. Twenty three maneuvering jets allow the ship incredible maneuverability and the ship also has atmospheric capabilities.

When the Empire attacked, the 'Beowulfe" Corvettes were in the first and third lines of defense. As the Imperial ships blasted their way through, the Corvettes fired their weapons in an effort to destroy as many fighters as possible. The Corvettes claimed a total of 137 kills and the total loss of "Beowulfe" Corvettes was 29.

When the Alpha Pair decided to join the Rebels, no Corvettes were sent. Instead, the remaining ships stayed behind to protect the Royal Palace as well as serve in the orbiting Navy fleet. Two Corvettes were eventually sent as escort ships for a damaged Frigate. The two ships discouraged an attack from marauding Pirates in their aging Y-Wing fighters.
