U.S. Military Intelligence
This is a story that I just recently heard. It is a TRUE, actual radio conversation between a US Navy vessel and the Canadian Coast Guard.
DEFINITIONS:

ego-ism: a doctrine holding self-interest to be the motive or the valid end of action
egotism: an exaggerated sense of self-importance
There was a US Navy ship sailing off the coast of Newfoundland in October of 1995. It was heading West when it encountered the Canadian Coast Guard. Here is the ACTUAL message that was communicated between the two...
US: We recommend that you change course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.
CANADA: We suggest that you change course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.
US: This is the captain of a US Navy vessel. We are a large warship. Change course 15 degrees to the North, now!
CANADA: No. You change course 15 degrees to the South.
US: THIS IS THE USS ENTERPRISE. WE ARE A LARGE AIR CRAFT CARRIER OF THE US NAVY. WE ORDER YOU TO CHANGE COURSE 15 DEGREES TO THE NORTH!
CANADA: This is a LIGHTHOUSE... It's your call.
