Invasion of the Beast

It was a warm, summer day at the end of June when the little fur ball made his way into our hearts. Is he a German Shepherd, Beagle or Collie? We’ll never know what he is, but one thing is for sure; he definitely has a little TROUBLE in him. The name Timber seemed to fit well since he tried standing on his hind legs and "timbered" over.
He has since out grown his "timbering" stage, but has not outgrown his "puppiness". Chewing anything (towels, sticks, garbage, rocks, Christmas lights, etc.) is still his favorite past time. He is even smart enough to open doors, which upsets Megan when the beast pounces on her in the morning. Even with all our complaints, he still melts our hearts with his cute begging and guilty expressions. Now, if we can only get the girls to clean up the piles in the backyard, Dad would be much happier.

The Blind Can See and Bones Are Healed

Isn’t modern medicine wonderful? Our children complain about something, so we take them to the doctor; spend a few hundred dollars; and PRESTO, they are healed! It worked that way for Megan when she was having trouble in school seeing the blackboard. PRESTO, she got glasses! In April when Erika had a little scooter accident that fractured her arm, PRESTO, with the help of a bright pink cast, she was healed in just over four weeks. Luckily Vince and I are healthy, except for the aches and pains of copays and deductibles.

The New Millennium Begins

2001 was a blend of pleasures and frustrations. The year started out with nature supplying us with piles of ice and snow, which dammed up on the roof and melted down into the bathroom and kitchen. Even with plastic hanging and buckets collecting water, we still managed to have a wonderful New Year’s turkey dinner with Vince’s parents. Of course, the weeks to follow were busy with replacing the bathroom floor, toilet, linoleum, and painting. Vince has become quite the handyman with all his "Honey Do" jobs.
The more pleasurable parts of 2001 were the vacations we had. Our Memorial Day tradition of camping with friends was a fun filled weekend at Cedar Point Amusement Park (OH). We had a great time in spite of the torrential rains. In June we headed to the Pocono’s (PA) for a week at Split Rock Lodge. The highlight of the week was the horseback ride through the woods. Just don’t ask Elaine about "trotting". That poor horse is still recovering from the experience. We ended the week attending a wedding in Easton, and visiting Elaine’s mom in the hospital. Luckily she is better and will continue to take care of herself. Right, mom?
Erika kept busy this summer on the swim team. Practice five days a week and 5 swim meets kept her and mom running. Megan also joined a diving class and really enjoyed it. Meanwhile, Vince and Elaine tried their hand at golf. (Maybe next year will be better.)
With school starting in August, a whole new routine began. Erika, now in middle school (6th grade), and Megan (5th Grade) are once again doing well in school and keeping busy. Erika has started playing the violin and piano, and works long hours on her advanced Math class. Megan still enjoys piano and gymnastics, and even found time to attend the Science Olympiad in November. The school also keeps Elaine very busy as a substitute teacher.
Vince has gotten back to working out and has lost around 25 pounds. He is waiting to see if he can keep it off this winter, especially since he still can’t walk away from a plate of Christmas cookies empty handed.
