Okay, so here's how i did it ...

The package used was Photoshop V4.
I roughly cut around each face using the eraser and the magic wand.
I then pasted each face on the Smiths scene, each as a separate layer.
I converted the layers to greyscale and adjusted brightness/contrast to match.

By scaling, horizontally reversing and rotating, I managed to position and size the faces.
By using the eraser, I clipped the edges of the layers for neatness.
I had to paste a clipped copy of Morrissey's quiff onto my forehead and removed the original.

When I was happy I merged each layer into the original.
I then used the stamp tool to merge the edges neatly, removing any trace of the original faces.
I used the airbrush tool to add finishing touches.

Both images, even in JPEG were too big, both for the screen and bytes-wise (126k each).
By reducing the width of the images from 600 to 300 pixels I reduced them to 35k each.
I decided to use some of the space saved to show a close up of a 500 wide version (26k).
