Shito is the Japanese term for "Angels". They are mysterious creatures that appeared right before the second impact. No one really knows why they came or what their purpose is (other than destroying man kind). The third Angel is the first to strike. The Angels can create an AT field that makes it impossible to damage them with normal weapons, thats where the Evangelion and children come in.
