First the report... then the pictures... hang in there!

I sure blew it this time.  We all enjoy meeting at Tom's so much and it gets too hot too soon, so we like to start as early as possible.  Last year, it was lovely in April.  This year, the forecast when I sent out the reminder was for 74 degrees.  That just goes to show ya... the weather on Saturday was dismal... dreary and damp and cold... and even drizzly here and there.  So there wasn't a whole lot of turnout, but we still had a marvelous good time visiting.

I was really surprised at the amount of activity going on at Tom's.  There was a big craft market (which they say will be there every weekend), there was a stop for some kind of long-distance bicycle race, and, of course, there were all kinds of motorcycle groups and tourists and shoppers. And the usual wonderful music from a live band on the lake.

This is a picture of all the other people who weren't there at about 11:00 AM... but believe it or not, these tables filled up pretty good by the time we left at 2:30.  Please note that any whining I do about those who weren't there is in pure jest.  I wouldn't have been there myself if I had any sense at all, but since I set it up, I do feel like I should be there in case anyone DOES show up.  And I'm always glad when I do because someone always shows up... and this time someone came all the way from TEXAS to spend time with us.  And other nice folks came... and we even made a new friend for our group... and I wouldn't have missed it for the world!

Sorry I'm slow putting up the pictures (again)... I'm on Spring Break this week and madly working on projects for school. Mid-terms are over but the work goes on and this is an opportunity to get some of the big stuff done.  Plus, I have been asked to show in the Honors Show, so I had to finish a couple of extra projects for that.  I have been told that I will also be asked to show in the Computer Art category, so I'm getting ready for that, as well.  I am having so much fun and I'll show you some of the strange stuff I'm doing at the end of the pictures.

This is a picture of one end of the craft show... and it shows you how pretty it is down there at Tom's in the spring, even on a dreary day.

I had a nice note from Camelot479 (Heidi) who said that she had just committed to doing her internship on Saturday. They are open only on the first and third Saturday of every month and she still needed about 45 hours before she could relax so she needed to get in as many hours as she could.  She says hello to everyone and also wants you to know that she will not be graduating this June because she has postponed it until next year.   Just too much to do and not enough time to do it.  She hopes to be able to be with us in May.  Heidi sent me a like to a nice picture of herself with her dogs ... here is a link:  Heidi's Pictures
Also got some really good news from ShyRedFox (Judie) about her son, Jeff, and his battle with cancer. She said. . ." Jeff DOESN'T need radiation! Praise the Lord! The radiation oncologist studied all his test results and consulted with a number of colleagues over a period of 2-3 weeks, and concluded that it wasn't necessary.  Jeff's hair is growing again, and he's sporting a goatee and mustache ("just 'cause I can," he says.) His new business is up and running, and they've finished furnishing their new house."

Judie sends her thanks to everyone for all the support and prayers during their ordeal.

Throw in some extra prayers and support and encouragement for BarbyLu7.  Barby is nearing the end of a course of chemo AND radiation for lung cancer... and chemo and radiation together are a really hard row to hoe (not that chemo and radiation separately are not, but together they are life-threatening at best).  She says she knows now what it means to feel "lower than a snake's belly."  We all wish her well and pray for strength for her to get through this treatment so that her poor beat up ol' bod can begin to heal.  She's a real fighter and has a marvelous attitude.
RosalynG reports that she finished radiation with no problems. HURRAY!!! When she went for the next mammo, the right breast was free and clear but when they did the left (routine mammo), it didn't look too good, so she had surgery yesterday (April 9) on the left side. She will know the results this Friday or Monday, so keep those prayers coming.

Ros said she was just was getting over a concussion she got when she tripped and hit her head on the floor in their office in Fresno. She had a black eye for 3 weeks and a swollen knee that still hurts. She said this all sounds like slapstick comedy with her but she feels like she has one of those Ziggy Clouds over her right now.  And then... being Ros... she laughed.

Ros, darlin'... you know we are all praying like mad for you... and we hope you stay off the floor...

Huge congrats to Moon1WA (Molly) who has married a long-time friend, her favorite cousin's widower, and is now living in Amarillo, TX now. She said it isn't as pretty as Issaquah, WA, but love is there, and that makes up for a lot.  Molly says the Lord has also eased her fibromyalgia and arthritis to the point that she can play the organ again. She plays for their little church in Amarillo. There had been an organ in the church for over 15 years, but no one to play it.  I'm hoping Molly will send us some pictures!
Smoke Murphy had planned to attend but couldn't make it.  The Run for the Wall is next month and I imagine he's also involved with getting geared up for that.  There are a lot of great pictures on the Run for The Wall site and it's really worth a visit to see them.  I'm hoping he will let us know when and where they will start from this area this year so that perhaps we can  get up a group to go and see them off.  Smoke has email now, so it's a bit easier to keep in touch.

In the past, all the people I mentioned were from the AOL bunch, but now I add on the end part of the email address for those who are not.  With an extra space so that screen name harvesters won't pick them up.  Check out  SeniorNet on the Web  ... you won't be sorry!  You can either register or try it out as a guest.  You will need to pick a screen name to use and it's a good idea to pick the same name you use on AOL so you don't confuse me... LOL!!!  If not, try to get something similar if you can!

We sure hope YOU get a chance to be with us next time!

Please go back to the main SGGAF page for address, directions, and other general information about our luncheons.

We always miss (and gossip about) those who can't attend... and we always have a good time with those who CAN.

Who attended?
*means this is not a screen name and all are @aol.com unless otherwise noted

CWP157 (Charlie) and BettyAnn780 — Riverside

It is always so sweet to see old friends, meet new friends, and to put faces together with screen names for online pals we've talked to but have not met before.  If you weren't able to attend,

WE MISSED YOU!

These pictures are courtesy of LadyZinnia.  VistaGal always has nice photos on her site, also, but she wasn't there this time.  You'll find a link to her site at the end of these pages.

All of these pictures have the captions ATTACHED to them, so they will stay with the photos if you want to right-click and download any of them to your computer.

I always put these photos up two or three to a page, so that I can leave them a little larger and still have them load a little more quickly into your browser.  Just keep using the "NEXT" button on each page to see more pictures.
