Famous mountain climbing Area
Korea is roughly 70% mountains. while the average elevation is quite low, ripples of hills undulate off to the horizon in every direction.
The highest elevation in South Korea is Halla-san(1.950m), on the island of Cheju-do. Chri-san(1,915m) Paekdu-san(2,744m, North Korea) is the highest peak on the paninsular. South Korea has five mountain ranges. Runing down the east coast are the T'aeback ("Great White") Mountains. The largest and most significant range, this is the "backbone" of Korea.
The heighest and most popular peaks, known for good hiking, climbing, pleusant scenery, or historcal importance, are Chiri-san(1,915m), Sorak-san(1,708m),T'aek-san(1,566m),Odae-san(1,563),Sobaek-san(1,440m), Kaya-san(1,430), Chiak-san(1,288), Songni-san(1,058), Kaji-san(1,240m), and Kim-jung-san(987m).
Formed by spewing lava, some other is gravity and limestone.
