Peacocks in Edinburgh 98
Part 1 | Part two | ||||||||||||||||
And so it began. The peacocks assembled at Gonzo Peacocks ready fot the long Journey North. Red 5 peacock was once noted for his usual promt timekeeping. Our first problem was the lack of seats in Pauls 'custom designed' peoplr carrier. There were 10 peacock members present, however there were only 5 seats This was soon solved by Ernie, Bulb & Nicky 'Bud Bottle' Peacocks, transforming themselves into cardboard cut outs, allowing themselves to be carried flat. The problem of the lack of two further seats was soon solved with typical Melvin improvisation - Hey presto, two sumptuously upholstered garden chairs were shoehorned into the back of the van. First stop was the infamous 'Truckers' Cafe for a traditional slap up breakfast. Everything was progressing fine until driver Paul Peacocks attention was diverted for a split hour, by a rather interesting article in a well known magazine. The depth of the article was such that Paul Peacock failed to spot the two mail tail back until the very last moment, forcing a frantic stamp on the brakes sending poor Tony into the cage at high velocity. Unfortunately this was not the only poor piece of driving on the tour. As part of the tour, an afternoon of off roading had been arranged. The undoubted King of this grueling event was Gonzo Peacock, who demonstrated a level of driving skill matched only by Britains favorite driver, Maureen Rees. Following Gonzos release from the muddy depths of the course we returned to Edinbugh for the the night event, Silly Shirts and Hats night. Although the standard of dress was enough to get us noticed wherever we went, Paul was determined to make absolutely certain we were noticed, by hurling an young lass Hurtling towards a table full of drinks, resulting in a lager explosion. Fortunately the Four 'gentlemen' concerned saw the funnyside of being showered in their own beer. Unfortunately for Paul his attempts to create a headline were getting more and more extreme. In the ultimate attention seeking act, Paul threatened to throw Himself out of the Hostel window, in a Colt Severs, fall Guy style. Luckily, Gonzo peacock heard the cries of the Peacock and grabbed him to safety in the nick of Time. |
And so it was time for the main event. All the Peacocks assembled into official Tour shirts ready for juggs, sorry, judge Garys Kangeroo Court. There were some particularly serious crimes, not least being the The Stag himself being charged with misappriation of Peacock Funds. Happily all sentences were served and we were ready for the off. Unfortunately Dave had mistakenly put on his tour shirt, instead of his specially selected Teletubby suit of Tinky Winky. We decided the speediest method to hit town was by taxi. Unfortunately the Taxi Driver was not of the usual high standards of Cheesy Taxis, and managed to confuse the similarly sounding names of Rose and Grove, resulting in a two mile excursion at twice the price. Once in Rose street we hit the town in search of some action. Dave quickly found the infamous Blue Oyster Club. A night of dancing commenced with our very own Teletubby Peacock steeling the show with a remarkable rendition of the Telltubbies hit 'Say Eh oh.' The news that the peacocks were in town was now spreading fast, and before we knew it we were invited to a local nightclub where we were given free entry with complentary champaign by our host. One of our hosts even offered to pay for a hotel room for the night, bur luckily for red 5 peacock there was no room at the Inn, although under the circumstances a stable might have more approopriate. Before we knew it the Sun was rising and we decided it was time for bed. It was time to leave the hostel and depart on the long journey home. Fortunely the boredom of travelling was relieved by Garys impersonation of the Lions of Longleat. We arrived back in Cardiff refreshed and full of energy. Another top Peacock Tour.
