06-15-2000 3:35am Just a few thoughts to tease you with as I sit down to write my results of my month long Ka7 test. The only thing that this motherboard can't do is melt in your mouth. I'm sure if we gave the fine people at Abit this problem to solve they would do a superior job. Since my review is going to be 99.95 positive let me go ahead and give you the only negitive I experience with my Ka7. I had a core voltage problem, yes you set core volts at any number, lets say 1.7 and it actually gives you 1.65 volts. Ok enough bad let us turn to the good. No blue screens of death no matter what you throw at it. Ge force cards all work with it. And my alltime favorite was 119 stable fsb on 500 cpu with 650 core. Every bios tweak they give you from memory speed to l2 cache divisor all work with flying colors. Ok so what did I give this board for a final score. Well since nothing in this world is perfect I gave it a 9.995 . I will write a a full review in the next few days after I finish the product test I'm currently doing. Stay tuned!!!!!!!!!!
06/29/2000.......... Just picked up week 23 700 tbird. Ok here is the deal. First you need to make sure you KA7 has atleast 3.3 vcore volts, mine at default was 3.19 so had to raise vcore in bios to 3.50 which gave me 3.29 which works fine. 2) Make sure to set CPU PULL UP STRENGTH to Auto. (3) Make sure you set CPU DRIVE STRENGTH to Auto. Then as you raise FSB and you get lock up around 12 FSb raise core voltage accordingly. So did the T-Bird run o/c on my Ka7. You best believe it does. Right now running 820mhz rock solid with 101/33 mhz and 15 Fsb, Core volts at 1.8. I haven't opened the case yet but will tonight and attach gfd and see how she runs. 06/30/2000 3:45 A.M. I finally opened the case and I have a 700 core Thunderbird. Now I installed the Tweaking Device2(GFD) that is list on my web page. Set CPU at 800 and core volts and 1.8 to boot then ran benchmark, system totally stable. Next I did some minor adjustments, raided fsb to 8, then 12, and raised core volts to 1.85. ran benchmark 4 times and was perfect. So I decided to gamble a bit more. I raised FSB to 16 and core volts to 1.9 which gave me CPU speed of 930.67. I ran 3D Mark 2000 twice and then played quake for three 15 minute long games without a single stumble. I next ran benchmark test again and passed with flying colors. I installed Direct X 8 Beta like a fool and watched my benchmark take a 330 point drop. OUCH!!! So you know my Cpu is cooled by Global Win FLK38 with Delta 60 fan tossing a cool 38 cfm on heatsink. For those of you interst here is my 700 T-bird benchmark. For those of you that would like help getting KA7 to runs thunderbirds, please use my Email Form to contact me. You will find this at bottom of this web page. Will attemp to go higher but rock solid at 930. Computer will boot with GFD set to 850 but cant go above 5 FSB. Also my system boots and goes into windows with GFD set to 900 Cpu, but benchmark crashes. I think this is due to cpu core more than Abit motherboard. |
Since I can't seem to get ahold of a Ka7-100 motherboard for my own test, I thought everyone would like to read a few results. The following link is a KA7-100 Review you just might enjoy. I have written 2 e-mails to sales at Abit, one for for a test board and one was to purchase the Ka7-100 and they still haven't responded. Makes me kinda sad since my review of the Ka7 will dazzle you with the final score I give. It was by far the most stable and overclockable Athlon motherboard to ever cross my path. So good I bought it for myself and drool everytime I turn it on.
