FULL TOWER AND SERVER MEDIUM TOWER
6/22/2000 Trying to get ahold of a few Addtronics cases. We are considering purchasing W8500 WTX and also would like to test their 7890 and 7896 and 6890 and 6896 case for future sales. I hope to hear from them soon.

07/13/2000 Since I'm still working on my case review and it wont be finished till I have completed CPU Cooler review, I thought everyone would enjoy a preview of one of the cases I will be reviewing. I stumbled upon this site last night and said to myself after reading this review, this guys is just as crazy as I am. We both seem to try to improve a design and add a unique twist to what we do. So here is the Addtronics 7896 Case review. Also note this site has alot of helpful tips and parts for keeping your system running cool.

ADDTRONICS W8500 WTX CASE REVIEW

The first thing you notice about this case is it's overall size. The box it ships in is huge and well padded to protect this valuable edition to the case market. The dimensions of this case are breath taking, so I will give you measurement of internal area without counting the front and rear bezels. It measures 21 high by 20 deep by 10 wide. After measuring and unpacking this case I decides to test for rattles and observed a pesky rattle coming form the removeable motherboard plate. I decided since clearence was an issue the quickest fix was electrical tape to the edges of the backing plate. Then I looked in the case and decided to tape the mounds that the plate slides into. I have taken a photo of this modification and will post it this weekend. This simple 5 minute modification took care of the rattle.

This case was the most user friendly case I have ever built. From the minute you start to assemble this monster you start to smile with amazement. The things I loved about this case was the attention to detail and the removeable hard drive bay. Talk about smart, I have spent many nights trying to find just the right angle to remove the hard drive screws on other cases. With this case you remove the front bezel and expose the nice hard drive cooling fans and then lower flab remove 2 more screws and pull out hard drive carrier. This makes hard drive swaps so simple and easy on the knuckles. Another nice feature of the front bezel is the filter system is already built in and is removeable, plus the even give you a lock on the front bezel. This lock is there to keep your case panel screws away from prying friends who think they know how to build a system. There is more than enough places for cooling fans, the front of case has hard drive fan and then 3 more slots to install fans, plus a fan mounting area next to cd drive bays. The rear of the case has four places for fans and yes they could blow towards cpu or away. They are in the bottom of the case but what makes this case so nice is that the motherboard sits upside down. Since heat rises the heat naturally moves away from cpu.

Another thing I really liked about this case was the space inside case. I placed my Abit Ka7 motherboard in it and you would think I'm using a micro board. There is plenty of room to move around and not get worried about things catching on anything or cutting your hands. I was able to install the inner components and have this system up and running in less time then it takes for the normal full tower I usually use. The extra space makes it easier to work on and that gives you quickier build times. Since I cant stand 5 page reviews I will end here and finish the review tommorow after I spend the night dreaming about this beautiful case.

The "GOOD"
1) Removeable hard drive holder
2) CD Drive are on Sliders for quick removal and drive swaping
3) Above average space
4) m/b sits upside down so cpu is on bottom of case
5) Fans blow at cpu cooler rear fans pull cool air over cpu
6) Enough size that fan noise is very light
7) Can Use redundant or regular ATx power supply
8) Place to hold 3- 92 MM fans and 6- 80mm fans
9) Hinged side panels for easy Access
10) Caster to move monster to another room if needed
11) Coolest overall temp of any case I have ever had or tested.

" BAD "
1) Bracket below power supply doesnt allow power supply with 2 fans to sit properly. Need to have modifications to work with Enermax power supplies.
2) No marking on Hard drive led (1.2.3.4.) would be nice
3) Motherboard try rattle.... I fixed mine
4) No instruction sheet
5) That I don't have 2 off these cases!
6) That I like this case so MUCH I'm considering buying it since this is on 30 day review and I haven't paid for it yet!....lol
7) ME searching for bad things to say.....lol

OVERALL OPINION !!!!!!!!!

I wish I had recieved 2 w8500 wtx cases. The reason is during the last week I swaped out 10 m/b and ran into trouble with rivets around slot 3 interfering with getting proper seatting for pci card. I would like to compare it to another w8500 caes to see if there all the same. I do have another bad and its the slots in back of case are to narrow for some pci cards. I used a dvd decoder card and the s-vhs cable ground out to pci slot and wiped out my decoder card. I put electrical type on slots to remedy this problem. Overall I still say this case is the nicest case in it price range just wish they would let me show them where problems are and let me give suggestions to improve it. I will be enclosing a letter with the case when I return it. This is to let them know that areas with black tape are minor problems. I'm not to sure how they will react to my review, but hope they see the good points I am making. "Would I buy this case, YES!!!" The good far outweigh the bad!
