Work Experience Details

Leeds Metropolitan University
Research Assistant, Faculty of Information & Engineering Systems

Developed a critical understanding of business within the construction industry; design & build, partnering, knowledge management & information systems.

Constructed a working prototype application that required an understanding of structured information systems, analysis & design, structured methodologies, conceptual & logical design, database design concepts. The role required a working knowledge of the Windows 9x operating systems and Microsoft office applications, the development of Oracle & Access databases, project management, presentation skills and report writing.

The building and maintenance of relationships with members of various organisations at different levels within the construction industry was an essential part of my contribution, and was central to the overall success of the project.

The research (into areas such as organisational learning, inter-organisational systems and business process redesign/reengineering) required both collaborative and individual work and gave an improved awareness of the work that was being carried out and the reasoning behind it.

BBM Engineering Ltd
Systems Manager

Carried out a business systems analysis, as a result of which I greatly improved the companys use of a Paradox relational database, allowing the logging and reporting of all orders received, stock movements, purchase orders and invoices received.

Installed & commissioned an accounting package, followed later by a salary package, providing much needed office automation and business information.

Assembled the infrastructure and hardware enabling a PC to interface with three CNC engineering machines, allowing programs to be written, saved, downloaded and uploaded.

Managed the organisations local area network, which doubled in size within 12 months, allowing faster access to more accurate information.

My duties required a thorough understanding of DOS, Windows 3.x & 9x operating environments and the development of, and training & coaching in, computerised office systems. The entire organisations IT and IS queries were dealt with personally.
